Real Haunted House

School Nurse

Redlands, California

It is said that in this school a young girl died in the nurse’s office. Now, the entire grounds of the school are haunted by the little girl. Allegedly, the swings swing by themselves-even though the wind is calm. Sometimes, one may even hear a girl whispering to them on the playground. If anyone knocks on the door of the nurses office, it knocks back!

Back in 1989, my HS boyfriend, his friends and I all went to this school. His brother was the only one brave enough to knock on the front door. The front door of this school is HUGE, and beside the door on either side are panes of glass going from the floor to the ceiling. You could look behind the door and see that nothing was there. When he knocked the first time, nothing happened. Then he knocked a second time, louder this time, and out of no where we heard a huge bang on the front door that came from the inside of the door. We were all freaked out, started to move away from the door. He went back to the door, almost teasingly, pretending he was going to knock, and before he could knock, we heard ‘knock knock knock’ coming from the inside of the door again. We had knocked on the nurses window as well (which is to the left of the front door). And something certainly knocked back there. We left there scared out of our minds.

2 years ago my frinds and i went. we did not know where the school was at and just our luck the night was foggy. After driving around the area for about a hour. we had given up hope of finding it when we took a small st which led us to the clearing where the school was. the story we heard was that the little girl was ran over by the school bus when she was chasing her ball. it is said that the nurse picked her up and took her inside the nurses offices where she dies. while we walked around the flag pole rope was moving even though there was no wind. while we where looking for the nurces office. to knock on the door we heard the moving of desk. after we knocked where we thought her room was we heard the shuffling of desk. needless to say we all got out of there as soon as possible.

As long as I’ve lived in highland and gone to school in Redlands, this school story has always been told. But I’ve heard it differently. I always heard that Mariposa was haunted by a little boy hit by a bus and yes the swinds violently swing when you sit down then get up to leave. At Kimberly Crest it’s said that a lil girl died in the nurses office but I’ve nrver heard how or why. Those big front doors and glass windows are the cafeteria. We tried both last night but neither worked. I still believe, but maybe me and my friends weren’t “worthy”.What’s the story about the stalled bus on the train tracks by starbucks on orange street? Can anyone tell me where more haunted spots are in redlands besides the Barton Mansion and the “Skater Crater”?

No student has ever died at Mariposa this is purely made up.As for the Barton Mansion the alleged video tape and haunting is also BS.The Dr.Benjamin Barton mansion never was or is haunted-the Bartons lived long happy prosperous lives in Redlands…just because a home is big old and empty for a while doesn’t a haunting make-so in these two cases the facts dispute and don’t exist…

when I first herd the story I couldn’t believe that a kid got ran over and died at the school. I tought it was awfull. But from the story it says it was a girl that died at the school and not a boy. I wonder why it likes to knock back at a person that is knocking at the door? Well once I herd that a hole bunch of kids went up to the school because they tought that the ghoast wasnt real. My friend said” they did go up there and they started saying they didnt believe in her”. Well she said things started happening like the swings started moving violintly, and voices were starting to be heard from inside of the school. At one point one of the kids herd a voice say “leave!” in a very scary matter. She said right at that moment all the kids started running away from the school as fast as they can. I asked her If any of those kids ever went back and she said no…they were to afraid to ever do it again, and she said those kids know believe, and there never going back. I thought that was an interesting story about what happend. And if I ever go Im never going to do that but I do want to knock at the door or window of the nerces ofice to see what happens.

The Mariposa School story is not true, but Redlands truly is one of the most haunted cities in the U.S. Redlands was, at one time, the witch craft capitol of the world. Kimberely Crest is one of the most haunted sites in the town. Many movies have been filmed there just because of the history involved (Hell Night with Linda Blair) If you ever get a chance to visit this town, you should. Check out all the heritage homes. The Barton House truly is the freakiest of them all. I have witnessed myself some horrors that have occurred there. It has been converted into a dentist office and redone, but just a few years back it was the most haunted place in the city.

Approximately 25 years ago my parents, myself and my siblings lived off of Alabama Street approximately one mile left of the main highway. My dad was working for Kimora Nursery and was in charge of maintaining the property under construction, in return we got to live rent free in the house next to the nursery. The things I heard and saw in that house still haunt me to this day. My mother and I were the only people unfortunate to see and hear these demons. I was about 8 years old when this started to happen. There was a murder of a young girl at the time when we lived there. She died near our property which was an orchard field. For months after her death my mother would hear her crying for help as she ran from one end of the orchard to the other end, “momma, momma.” I saw and heard worse than that. I will elaborate later if you are interested.

I’ve never been to any haunted houses, but in South Carolina, I garentee you,in every city there you will find something haunted.I think the most haunted place there, would have to be Fort Sumter. I’ve been there before and it was in the daytime and you could sense and hear things that wuold just let you know the place was haunted.Fort Sumter is located in Charleston, so if you ever want visit, go to Charleston.I think the place is haunted because in the old,old days there was a war going on I can’t remember what war it was, but a lot of people died on that day, a whole lot. And when you are there you feel like someone is whathing you and it makes you feel very uncomfortable… especially on the beach front.I only know these things ’cause I was born there, not in Fort Sumter, but in South Carolina and I do a whole lot of research it turns out THIS IS ONE HAUNTED STATE.I’ve seen things heard about things and done research on things and you should too it’s really exciting and it makes you feel scared inside, butfor the most part…EXCITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I attened that school. I have knocked when i attened i heard knocking back and ran. The thing about the swings is true too. I once was swinging on the swings and the one next to mine started swinging. I didn’t leave i just stared at it really freaked out as i swang back and forth. There wasn’t a breeze that day but every time i would swing on that swing I felt as if some one else was there with me. It could have been billy or the girl but who knows. I was anywhere from 7 to 9. And i am visting there again soon to see if billy or the girl is there and see if they trust me stil or if they ever did and if its the guy i might ask him out if possible (looner remeber that and it be cool to date a ghost or I would like to make him happy so hes spirt would be free)

This would actually be a little funny I think.

Little kid: *knocks on door*
Door: *knocks back*
Mom: What is it, honey?
Little Kid: Look Mom, the door knocks back! *knocks on the door, and nothing happens* FREAKIN’ KNOCK BACK!
Mom: Of course it knocks back, honey. *knocks on the door, door knocks back* Oh my gosh! *grabs daughter and runs away*
Little Kid: See Mama! I told you it knocks back!

I’m not saying I don’t believe it, but it’d be funny if this happened.

ok here is the story, back in the 50’s or 60’s, a lil boy, I don’t know if his name is Billy or not, was hit by a school bus, he was taken into the nurses office where he died. It is said that if you knock on the door to the nurses office he knocks back. Now here is my story I went there with about 5 other people last year, we knocked on the front door to the school and nothing happened then we hopped the fence and knocked on the nurses office and nothing happened so I can’t say if its true or not, but if you decide to go you should be careful because the cops are always around there.

I went to San Gorgonio HS in the late 80’s and I went with friends to the school in 87 We knocked and nothing happened…then as we left a few minutes later, the door knocked back….. we ran hard back to our cars… There was a car in the parking lot when we got there around 11pm. We went back with more people around 1am and knocked again…nothing happened…and the car was gone. I think the night custodial staff/school staff working late hours are behind all this.

OK OK ENOUGH JEANETTE! First of all, everything you say is Hogwash! There was a death at Mariposa elementary school. Do your homework with the Redlands Unified School District. A Mr. Tolar, who taught sixth-graders at Mariposa in the early 1970s said the accident happened in 1972, the victim died on school grounds but wasnâ??t a Mariposa student and probably wasnâ??t named Billy as in the legend. What happened, Tolar said, was a boy between 8 and 11 years old came screaming down Puesta del Sol on a bicycle. The hilly road dead-ends at the elementary school, and the boy ran the stop sign and was hit by a truck. “We brought him into the office because he was so critical,” Tolar said. “The Fire Department came too late and just scooped him up.”

So there you go Mrs. 43 years in Redlands. You were probably too stoned in 72′ to remember what happened!

As for the Bartons, they did NOT have a “long, happy and prosperous lives in Redlands”. Dr. Barton was only at that house for a short time. He bought the property from the mormons when they were recalled to Salt Lake City in 1857, for the short-lived Utah War, and many were forced to sell their property at a price lower than they had purchased it. Barton bought the land for $2000. and started construction in 1859. There were 3 re-models that took a year at a time and the family would stay at their second home in San Bernardino. Barton started staying with his wife in San Bernardino in the late 1880’s and he died in 1899. Boy they were there for a long long time! Ha Ha. Do your homework moron! They mansion was built just to the north of the assistencia near or on the indian burial ground of the early 1800’s. Barton didnt care, he was a slave owner from South Carolina and all of this happened before the Civil War and the Emancipation Proclamation. There are several starnge happenings at the Mansion over the years, ask local Police Men or go to the “Smiley Library Heritage Room” in Redlands, CA and do research on the history of the mansion as I have. A lot has happened while you were stoned in the 70’s and now living in a glass bubble oblivious to what goes down in Redlands. Oh ya, Barton was a serious Free Mason that was into some secret society stuff that we probably would never want to know about! Thanks.

This place is for real people. Back in 1988 my and 7 friends went to Mariposa to see gor ourselves. We went in 4 brand new Toyota Trucks, all parked in a line in fron of the school. We knocked and heard the bed in the nurses office moving. Then we asked questions and asked the boy to knock once for yes, twice for no and did get responses. One of our friends looked in the windows and saw nothing and started banging on the door. Then as if someone behind the door kicked it with all the strength he had. We ran like hell, got in out trucks and none of them would start. We had to push start all of them! Too bad about the cameras there now. I’d love to expierence it again. Redlands P.D. and the school are covering up something that is real!

This story is wrong, its a little boy and you don’t knock on the front of the school, you have to go to the nurses office, knock there then you have to go play on the swings with the little boy. My friend has found a warm little kids sweater sitting on the ground by the swingset, twice, same jacket… but be careful, cops like to catch people there.

Emily says:

June 17, 2007, 11:00 pm

so heres the deal, its a little boy, not a girl… and he didn’t get hit by a bus, he fell off the swings and broke his neck. He had to be brought to the nurses office, but he dies in there. So, you go knock on the nurses door, there wont be knocking back, and then, you go swing. My friends and I found a warm sweater, twice, same color same spot….

I have been to that school numerous times in the 90’s and always with a huge group of friends and it always knocked back. We did the whole “knock once for yes, and twice for no” thing and it works as well. I have seen the swings moving in the middle of the night. Once we were there during a thunderstorm and light drizzly rain, and as we were walking toward the nurse’s door from the baseball field one set of sprinklers came on. One. During a rainstorm. It was cool. We spent so much time there, we almost felt like we befriended the ghost!

I lived in Mentone, a small town right next to Redlands. I went to Redlands East Valley High, class of 07 and I have heard the story of Mariposa Billy as well as Hells Kitchen and Gravity Hill. I heard that one of the books about the mansions in Redlands at Smiley Library has a picture of a trasparent boy sitting in the tree in front of a mansion. I also heard that Redlands is the most haunted place in the world with the longitude and latitude of 666 or something like that, however, i never really checked. Redlands is pretty old and there are lots of huge old houses. I never thought Redlands was a “known” place. ahah. its cool that you guys want to visit it. But since this story is about Mariposa Billy, ill tell you the school is in a secluded place up in the hills near what we call “snob hill”. At night its pretty dark and there are lots of trees. it adds to the mood. and the story i heard is that it was a boy named billy that got ran over by the school bus. he was brought into the nurses office where he died.

The weird thing about all this is I researched it on the net, newspapers, talked to people who lived in redlands and the truth is that someone was struck by a truck, but died at the hospital but even so if you go there and knock on the door you will hear taps back. I heard a scratching (faintly) on the inside of the door and a loud knock on the door (Never ran so fast). Always a weird uncomfortable feeling in the air. Whatever the story is, something strange is in that place.

The school on Redlands Blvd. and California has only been empty for about 2-3 years. I had a friend that went there Sophomore year and I just graduate in June of 07. It is now used as the Redlands Adult School. I’m not saying it’s not haunted, I have no clue, but I’m just saying that it hasn’t been empty to terribly long.

Mariposa Elementary is where the little boy supposedly died and knocks on the door. However there is a punch card clock that was used till the late 80’s that was so loud it sounded like a knock on the door. The story is bunk.

However the elementary school on California street is haunted by a little girl. I don’t know her story, but my friend’s mom taught there when I was a kid. One afternoon my friends mom forgot to bring home some papers she needed to grade so she brought us with her. For some reason or another she left my friend and I in her classroom alone for just a few minutes and we both heard a little girl laughing. My friend and I looked at one another and ran out of the classroom to wait in the car for her mom.

ok,so yes i have heard this story among many others.Living in Redlands, you hear many ghost stories.Man does that town creep me out, but with all the stories you hear u find out that they are just that ….stories. Then came the day when my Brother and myself came up with the bright idea to go find out for ourselves. Not such a good idea. the whole way up to the school it was just a big joke to me. i was not scared one little bit. come on guys its just a school how scarey can it be but once there my tune changed. i instantly got a sense of unease, something was not right here. like that gut feeling u get when u know somethings going to go wrong. but whatever its just my mind playing with me. so we head up 2 the door and as we get there there are some strange sounds coming from inside. Of course we still decide to knock…..but there was no sound. so we knock again and this time there is this sound we could never describe, like screaching metal or something mechanical breaking. then we hear the sound of spinning and when u look inside there is your everday school house clock, you know the big ones with the huge numbers and hands. well tonight this clocks hands are spinning a mile a minute, going as fast as you could ever imagine and at that point we hear the loud banging of a knock coming from the inside of the door! lets just say that was the first and last time i tried to find out the truth to any ghost story.

Thank you for your reply. I am having a hard time sending you a e mail so i will try from here. I do believe that the Prospect murder happened more than 20 yrs ago. I use to live in Redlands as a child I lived on East Crescent Ave which is only a couple of blocks away from the park and i was always warned that I should never go there alone and especially at night because a young girl was killed there. And that was back in the 60’s when i lived there. I do know that Redlands is a creepy place especially around the older parts. Tell me what you know I am really curious to hear what you have to say.

I believe the school on California and Redlands Blvd was called Mission Elementary.

I grew up in Redlands and I loved it. It is full of history, some good and some bad, but it’s definitely interesting.

I went out there a few years back with some friends. We went to the door and knocked like the story said. At first there was nothing. After a few more tries we finally herd the knock back. At first we were amused and kept doing it, knowing it was spooky. Then I decided to leave a note for the girl. I wrote on a piece of paper asking for her name and slid it under the door then knocked. About 20 seconds passed and the paper slid back under the door shreaded. After that we all took off and never tuned back.

I’M PRETTY SURE NOBODY IS HAUNTING MARAPOSA!!!We knocked on the door and nothing happen. So then we went to the swings and I started swinging and the swing next to me started moving and freaked us out but then I figured it was the wind or the movement from me moving the swing. Oh yeah and the cops came and told us on halloween they hide behind bushes and scare kids. haha who does that? They also confirmed it was a myth.

Okay, real quick. In the 80’s just before I left for Marine Boot Camp, my boyfriend, sisters (2) and one of their friends went to Mariposa Elementary to check out this tale. We had been there previous but nothing happened as the this night. We got there and so did another two couples. The quys had told us that it was the heater you would here knocking and that you could time it. So after they left we did an experiment. We started asking questions to the little boy that haunted the school. We would ask it yes and no questions and he would answer by knocking once for yes and twice for no. After we really got to conversating…by the way he misses his family. We asked him to answer questions with in the count of three…and he did. There was no consistent time, it happened randomly. By the way it was summer, why the heck would the heaters be on. We were all cool asking the questions until the knocking came from the nurses office. We all freaked and ran, but something told me to go back and I did. Eventually everyone did also. The trick to asking the questions was to have your hand on the door, as I was holding on and asking more questions, the door shook and that was it. We were gone. We got into the car left. The next time we went back, it wasn’t the same. Now I cannot find the school, it was always a pain to find. Thanks to survelliance I won’t be going back.

I was born and raised in Redlands. Let me tell you of all the stories we heard… and they have been around for a long time. My parents ALSO grew up in Redlands. My Grandfather owned acres of orange groves. The groves were spooky but there have been some other places. Halsey House was one we all agreed in HS (Class of 82) was spooky! We actually saw people in robes and the bonfire in the backyard. Many paranormal pyschs believe there is a real nest of poltergeist activity in Redlands. In the movie Poltergeist the so called “Specialists” that were brought to the home was a group that had found something in Redlands… watch the movie you will here the town named. Kimberly Crest is another I had heard and I had also heard the story of the swings….. It was a fun place to grow up and wouldnt have wanted to grw up anywhere else.

Same as most of you, me and my wife heard this story years ago. So about 4 years ago we went to this school and tried knocking on several doors that looked like possibly the nurses office. Once we found the one that seemed to be it we knocked about 4 different times, on the 4th we didnt get a knock back, but the surrounding walk way pillars (the pillars that follow the path to each classroom) we heard what seemed to be a pinging sound. The best way I can describe it is, like as if someone hit the poles with the end of a pen, It was not at the same time but started from far away then came closer. Our friend that came with us took off running, so naturally we ran to. And believe it or not as we were running we heard childrens voices and laughter in the far distance, comnig from the soccer field. Cool encounter!!

ok, folks. I have to tell you. the legend is definitely one that has been around since I was a little kid. as a life long resident (31 years) and a rebellious, thrill-seeking teenager…there have been SEVERAL times that my friends and I would make late-night trips to good ol’ Mariposa Elem. After doing the whole ‘knock, wait for the knock back’ we discovered that it is actually the clock. you guys know what clocks Im talking about. those huge black rimmed, white faced school clocks that you can hear tick loudly. after freaking ourselves out and hauling *** back to our car about 10X, we finally had the courage to stay. 1st knock nothing, wait a bit, knock, then a ‘knock’ back. we timed it. it will knock back every minute. so either its the clock or this ghost has OCD.

I never had the chance to go to the school. Kimberly Crest has a interesting history. The grounds are spooky enough at night by themselves. They are also home to many un-natural things. If you have the guts to explore like myself and a very good friend (now my husband) did. the grounds are beauitful. Heartbreakingly so at night. Just remember your sage and quarts for protection.

The story is that a little girl got killed in that stall, so no one goes in that stall. It is the very last stall on the right and the door is light brown, while the rest are black and white.

I am a 53 year old carpenter and a long time resident of Redlands,I entered this web site to see if any one else had an experince with the Kendel house on palm ave. but found nothing,so I’ll tell my story….
About ten years ago I was hired to repair some damaged plaster in a small room in the attic of the Kendle house, the attic has three small rooms with angled ceilings that contour the roof line with a large room in the center, the three small rooms all have doors and were to be used as storage. The one my partner and I were to repair was the second of the three rooms,o.k.we arrived in the morning and the ladies who work here led us up to the attic showed us what they wanted done and left, so we went back down to grab all of our tools and lug them up three flights of stairs to start work, when we entered the small room the only thing in there was an old rocking chair and it was in our way ( the room is probally 8′ by 10’with a pitched ceiling and a small window at the end) so i moved it out into the large room, but when I touched it I got a shock like you get from a nylon carpet but, the floor was old pine slats.that was the first of the weird experiences up there.the second was when we left the room to let the plaster patch dry and have some lunch,as we left the small room Jason my partner said “look at the chair” and it was rocking by itself and continued rocking until we left.well that was a bit unnerving, we came back about an hour later to find the chair rocking again and when we said something about it ,it stoped as if some one grabbed it.well we were both freeked out about it and finished up the plastering rollrd up our tools and left leaving the chair right where it was, when we came downstairs to pick up my check i asked one of the ladies about the chair in the attic, and if anything weird happened with it, and i was told nothing more than “thats why it’s up there” well thats my story, believe it if you will.

I have heard several stories about this school. One being a boy hit by a bus (someone told me it was false since they do not move accident victims until paramedics arrive). The other story was that a young boy named ‘Billy’, who was mentally slow, was not being supervised and went to swing on the swings….he ends up either jumping or falling off and cracking his head on the cement that used to be around the swingset and supposedly bled to death in the nurses office.

Ive been to Mariposa quite a few times and have knocked on the infamous door. Most times we went between 2-3am. Strange things happened every time we knocked. We would hear desks shuffling and tapping on desks…ill never forget the time we were knocking and had our ears to the door when we heard (and felt) a LOUD bang like a door slam in the building. We never saw anything strange with the swings though…

Be careful if you go, the police are very quick to respond nowadays.

SMT, I just read your message after posting mine. I live in the smiley park district of Redlands and there is DEFINITELY activity at our residence. I rent with several others, but we would welcome an investigation as we have all had encounters of our own.

Activity includes: Typical everyday things being moved (some never found), doors opening and closing, shuffling noises heard, beds slumping down under weight as if someone had sat down, stairs creaking under weight at night. We have recently heard LOUD running/stomping footsteps upstairs as well as slow creaking across the floor (sounds like something really heavy is on it). I have felt things brush across my feet at night that wake me up out of dead sleep and my mother has been slapped by an invisible hand. Activity is increasing lately, and ive been sleeping downstairs! My mother was home alone the other night and heard upstairs noises. Running followed by a loud thud above her….she proceeded to sleep in the car for the night haha.

Anyways, it would be AMAZING to have this professionially looked into! I check my email constantly, please write me! dertydata at gmail! Thanks!

August 19, 2010, 5:01 am

Here is my story of what happened to us in the Summer of 1989 at Mariposa School in Redlands, CA. (This is an absolute TRUE account of these events exactly as they happened) I had heard the story of the little boy and convinced some buddies from work to drive us up there one night after closing at what used to be The Wherehouse music/video on Orange St. I couldn’t wait to scare them as I was a skeptic non-believer. Before we even
got up there, a girl that was with us began to feel scared and very uncomfortable. I asked her what was wrong and she said, “We need to turn around and go back.” I asked her why and she said,”He doesn’t want us to go up there.” I laughed and asked, “Who?” She became still and scared like I have never seen. We arrived and talked her into coming with us to
the Nurses’ Office. She didn’t want to be alone in the car in the lot, so she joined us. We were stupid and naive kids back then. I was the first to knock on the window. Nothing. The other guys began to laugh and giggle and
after they finally shut up, I knocked again…It sounded like someone had picked up a desk and set it down gently. Everyone heard it. My buddies told me to knock again as it was probably the janitor hiding, etc. We had checked the entire parking lot and even walked the halls of the school-Nobody was working late or hiding out anywhere. It was around 12:30am.
I tapped on the window. Nothing. The jack-*** of the group then began pounding with both fists on the glass and yelling,”Billy!Come on outa there, you little *******!” The other fools really thought that was funny
until at least three of us saw a tall, black shape walk slowly past the bulletin board inside of the Nurses’ Office. When I say tall, I mean it had to have been at least 6’6″. It was not a little boy. It was a dark entity of some kind. We ran as fast as we could back to the car and as we were running, the ones who hadn’t seen it stayed behind to hear a loud crash from inside the Nurses’ Office. That did it. They also ran back to the car. We took off and the poor girl who wanted to go back was crying she was so scared. None of us spoke on the way back. I remember one kid saying a few days later, “That wasn’t some old time clock…”
I can’t explain what I saw that night. I’ve never been back since. I’m getting chills right now as I type this. It is true. The experience changed my life. I want to share my story as the truth. It is also true
that Redlands,CA has been listed by professional paranormal scientists as one of the most haunted places in the United States.

I lived on Cajon St., Redlands,CA. from 1965-1975. Attended Mariposa School the first year it opened, & 2 additional years until the new Kingsbury School was completed. I do not recall any ghost stories, though we were always WARNED to stay out of the orange groves. Loved the Edwards Mansion and remember when it was cut in half & moved down Cajon St. in the early 1970’s. What a site to see a huge, Victorian home in two sections.
Spent countless hours at Kimberly Crest traversing through bamboo woods & orange groves, which was forever enchanting w/the Shirk Home which is now open to the public. Redlands was a charming hometown, many happy memories. In memory of Tom Huffman, 1962-2004, my dearest childhood buddy.

Some friends and I experienced this about 16 years ago, and to this day it is the only thing that has ever happened to me that keeps me interested in the paranormal. We went to the office at around 3 am, and there was no explanation for the clear knocking I heard as it answered yes or no questions. When we walked along side the office an air conditioning unit started up very loudly, we thought nothing of it until it instantly turned off as we walked away. We communicated with the entity for about an hr by way of yes or know questions. And it answered every one of our questions with a knock. I don’t know if it’s a ghost of a human or some other entity, but what I witnessed was 100% real. We traveled a few hrs to reach the school and I’m convinced there is no chance it could have been a hoax. My feelings have only been reinforced now that ive heard how so many people have witnessed the same thing i did. I’ve since moved away and I have always wanted to go back and explore the phenomenon more.

Throught my teen years I often visted the old school with various groups of friends and experianced many paranormial circumstances. One late night with four of my friends we gathered on the field furthest from the office door. Filing across the field we reached the nurses door, as we approached we saw the offices’ blinds move gently as if someone were peeking out. I stepped forward among the group and knocked on the door, nothing had knocked back and there were no present noises coming from inside the little room as we held our ears to it. When from within the outdoor hallway we were standing in an echoed whistle rang through the halls in a creepy child like tune. I looked all my frineds in the eyes for what felt like a half second. When we realized none of us were making the eerie whistle we sprinted across the field. I have gone back since and have abtained many more storie such as this.

Went to school there as a child spent many nights there never once heard or saw any of the stuff you guys are mentioning. I only have happy memories of the school and the story about the boy getting run over was true but he died in the street in front of the school not in the office and im pretty sure it was his fault because he was not paying attention and rode right into a car sooooooooo…… anyway i love the school good times!! :)

I grew up in san bernardino. One night i go with my boyfriend and another girl to a park in redlands. This park is beautiful and big, right next to UCR. I never heard any ghost stories. i had heard of gates of hell, but that’s it. My boyfriend and I felt the presents of ghosts, i saw a ghost, and felt someone tap on my sholder as if to get my attention. Ever sense then i was curious about Redlands and the ghosts. I have heard many stories sense then. There is supose to be a bike rider that goes through the town at night. I have a freind that lives past prospect park and every time i drive past i get that feeling like in dreams when you are trying to run but you can’t. I’ve felt ghosts my hole life and i have to say, redlands ghosts are very scary. Bad things must have happened there.

This is real….. Call me crazy if you want but I have been going there and knocking on the office door for 20 years since I was 17 years old. He will knock back. I have also heard the swings move, looked around but did not see the swings. Real crazy… We have also seen the blinds move and the windows shake.

Here is the REAL story. His name was Scotty. He was playing at the school yard after school hours. He fell backwards off the swing and broke his neck. He drug himself to the office and banged on he door for help. But there was nobody there to help him. He died at the door. This happend in the 60’s if I remember correctly.

The school is Mariposa, in Redlands, CA. Its on Paolo Alto St, Dr., whatever it is…but anyway. I am 12 years old and I went there for 6 years for Elementary. I can tell you that it isnt shut down ad is running smoothly. I have never tried the “knocking on the nurses office door” trick, but my 23 yr old sister went there with a friend a while back at night…they ran to the swings and they were swinging already. No wind. In 2nd grade, a cameraman and a star on the show “Most Haunted” came to our school and interviewed Mrs.Hodges, the teacher who has worked there the longest. She said she doesnt know what to believe…to settl your arguments.. and also a boy named Billy died outside of school hours, but he was on campus. He got hit by a car when he was riding his scooter around mariposa. That is what I heard and you can believe whatever but take it from someone who just got out of that place 1 year ago…[: Good luck on your investigation!

I don’t know about the story at the school. However I can tell you that the board room across from the District office is haunted. We did a couple of catering gigs there. Every time we came in there were always dishes that were put away partly dirty. There was also footsteps and children’s laughter coming from the other room. The story is the the old school marm use to make breakfast for the children. The school is now the board room, however the school marm is still there making breakfast.

i now attened mariposa elementary school on palo alto, i am in fourth grade up on the hill room 20. so my sister and brother (younger) had a play that night around 9:30 and some other kids came to. to be specific a couple of boys, my best friend, and a fifth grader boy. so we started to hang out there and saw a real girl a ninth grader. there was another boy and girl we became friends and went up to the japaneeze garden. i was the only brave enugh one to go including my bff. we told them chickens from the hallway. they said “oh no you didnt”. then chased us up there . when we entered we heard a violent voice and it chased us to the swings at the big green playground. the trail was behind us. we saw some one looking at us with a red eye. at first we though it was Bloody Mary or the devil. then we ran as fast as we could into the play inturupted everything and made a speech that someonne was watching us. then the lights went out and the fire alarm turned on everyone found there parents and returned to their humble homes. now i fear to go back.

This same story has been told about a boy named billy so I guess this ghost story is gender equal but I do research, investigate and publish stories in the Inland Empire,Ca and this one actually originated in Arizona with a boy who ran across the street in front of an elementary school and was struck by a car he was taken to the nurses office where he later died from his injuries. The folklore goes on about any living soul who dares knock 3 times on the nurses office door at midnight something will knock back. Well that knocking back happens when the pendulum clock they have is mounted to close to the door so the arm of the pendulum hits the door just gently enough to prevent the clock from falling off the wall but loud enough for a teenager and his friends to her it as someone knocking back. A great spooky story to tell around the fire at night but not here in Redlands,Ca or at Miraposa Elementary school in fact the story has been past down so many times it has taken a life of its own and has made the Redlands chief of police order his officers to routinely patrol the school at night and post an officer at the school during the weekends in the month of October and there have been a number of kids sighted for trespassing. Same thing with Barton Mansion so many stories trashing good Dr. Ben Barton only to find out if anyone truly did some real research that he was a kind and loving man who did a great deal for Redlands and the surrounding communities his mansion did go abandoned for quite a long time and it is true from police reports that a body was dump inside there and transients created an atmosphere of fear in order for them to have a place to do what ever they were doing. Which made the interior of the mansion worn and torn but a business man had it restored into office’s up stairs and the Barton Children’s Day Care Center takes up the main part of the building and I don’t think the day care would be doing so well as it is if the parents around the community felt that they were leaving there children in a haunted place. As for the rest of Redlands,Ca there are a number of confirmed locations that have had paranormal experiences and it definitely one of the most haunted cities in California if not the entire country.
Thus motivating me to create a wed-site and online series dedicated to this region of California that I so lovingly call a HAUNT’D EMPIRE.

This story is true. And it’s a boy that haunts the place. The boy that passed was my husbands best friend. He was hit by a bus and the school nurse took him into the office. It’s not scary, I just wish someone could help him pass to the other side. My husband and this boy rode their bikes to school together, my husband stayed home sick and everyone actually thought it was my husband and not this boy.

My friend went up to check it out before it became heavily monitored with cameras and alarms. He, a grown man, told me they knocked on the door and distinctly heard something wrap back. He also he heard some movement in the office as if someone coming to the door, and they ran. I asked him to take me there and he refused… too scary he said, He will not return to the school.

I live in redlands and mariposa is my former elementary school but when I was there I could somehow sense the presence of the ghost. His name was billy and he did haunt the schoo . He was said to only haunt the upper grade bathroom but I know that isnt true. He haunts the entire school. My friends would jokingly say they saw him but I knew it was fake because I couldn’t sense him there. He seemingly attached himself to me while I was at that school. I remember hearing things amdthinking I had a problem but looking back at it I realize he was just trying to let me know his stor . I really want to go back to the school and investigate. If you are interested in hearing my story just hit me up sometime.

I am a fifth grader that goes to that school. I have proof that the story is real. There is a yard duty that has worked at the school 20 years ago. My friends told me this story but I didn’t believe it. The little boy haunts the school. I went up and asked the yard duty. He is usually always joking and messing around but he got very serious and kinda pale and told me the real parts of the story. “Billy was a little boy that was walking home from school when a bus hit him,” he said. My friend who told me the story said there was a blood mark on the curb but they painted it over with red turning it into a fire lane. I have tried knocking on the door but ran away thinking I heard something. If your wondering, I asked this when I was in fourth grade(last year).
