Second Story Window
The daughter of a prominent Henderson citizen lived in this house until she jumped from one of the second story windows to her death. Today, on the anniversary of her suicide, her face is seen in the window and her screams are often heard.

That is a tale that has been around as long as I can remember. I grew up in Henderson and nothing has ever been seen by anyone except children on Halloween because they want to see it. It is a nice story though.

That’s cool (and scary)! I’ve heard so many ghost stories- some people visit supposedly haunted houses and see and hear nothing at all. Others claim to have seen, heard, or even been attacked by ghosts. I have never had a ghostly encounter before. I guess what I’m trying to say is I don’t know wether or not to believe in ghosts. I still love reading and talking about the stories.

My father’s family owned this house for many years before the new tenants took over. As a child I was very interested in the story of the house and the girl that committed suicide by jumping from the 2nd story window. I have been in the house many times in my life and because of the enormous size, if wandered off could get very scared and confused, noises were a given, especially with the age of the house, but I have to say I never heard anything unusual. But I knew that I NEVER wanted to spend the night in it!!! The face has and always will be forever engraved in my mind. If any one has ever been close enough to see it they know what I mean, its like she is staring right through you. That enough to scare anyone!!! But what a fantastic & tragic story.

Second comment from Rhonda : For anyone not knowing about the face, as legend has it, the night after her suicide, lightning struck the house between the 1st and 2nd story, forever etching a likeness of her face in the scroll work of the house. To this day noone knows how it really got there, it was never mentioned in the building plans of the house, so you see why I never wanted to spend the night in it. Pretty awesome, HUH???

Where in Henderson is this house located? Also, when is the face supposedly visible? On the anniversary of her suicide, but when is that?
I lived in Henderson for many years and still live nearby. I’ve heard of the house, but nobody has been able to point out to me exactly which house.
Thanks.

The house is on 514 Center St, on the right hand side of the road you cant miss it. The face is always there, it is permanately etched in the red terra cotta between the second and third story of the house above the two windows (if standing in front of the house it would be on the left side )of the second floor. The only way to be able to get a good look at it is to be in the yard, which you would probably have to ask the new owner to see it. In my previous comment I said it was between the 1st and 2nd story, but in fact I was wrong. It’s the 2nd and 3rd. Hope this helps!!

We live just a few blocks away from this house and pass by it very often. I must admit that just being near this house gives me the creeps! About 10 years ago Danny went in the house, and the lady occupying it said that lights go off and on by themselves, toilets flush by them- selves, and there are strange noises. I wouldn’t spend the night in it, either!

I used to live in Henderson Kentucky until last year and I have seen this house but it was a long time ago. I did see it and alot of people believe that only kids can see it and I did think that so I do know that I have seen it and it is spooky and I would never want to live in that house just because of the fact that I have seen it before and I really don’t want to see it again.

I am the Director of the Evansville Chapter of Indiana Ghost Trackers, and I go by this house almost daily. I would love to do an investigation, but unfortunatly the tenants are unwilling to do so.
