The Sexton House
The story goes that a girl got mad at the bad weather on the night of her dance while getting ready in her attic room and looked out the window and cursed at God. She was then struck by lightning that left her shocked imprint on the window. When the window was changed the imprint came back. They painted over it, still, it came through. So they boarded it up. About two years ago a man that lived in the house was found dead by the bedroom door of a heart attack. They do not know what could of caused it. God must still be angry!
the man that died was 1 of my friends dad. his name was kelli williams! and i think the house is still haunted!

I’ve heard of this story a long time ago. when I was in first grade, to me it doesn’t make much sence for God to kill anying living being. I mean he’s not evil, any way the story that I heard was, that it was a young girls wedding day and her bride groom had just called it quits. even if that’s true why would good kill again? if there is some type of sprite there killing peopole for the fun of it then why haven’t there been more death’s? which brings me back to the story I’ve heard, the young bride cursed at - mybe she made a pack with the devil to get back at her bride groom and it back fired?

I think that God would never kill anyone for any reason because he loves you no matter what. I could believe that she made a deal with the devil to get revenge. But anyway my mother and older sister had told me about this story and we live not too far away from that house even though I have never seen that house personally I can visiulize what that house may look like. I have heard the orginal story more than once on many different occausions. Something else why would you even believe that just for cussing at God he would kill you in any way because I know that before I turned over to the christain faith I had cussed at God when my grandma had died so young and about two years or so later I asked for forgiveness and I believe that he has forgiven me or maybe he would have killed me too if you believe that story and I think that you all are stupid if you even think that God would even think about hurting you for any reason you should go to hell for that and you should be ashamed but like I believe I wasn’t there to watch what really happened so I don’t know the real story but hey if you know for a fact that you had seen what had happened be proud of yourself I guess you won the award for honesty. I am sorry for the girl father that had died in the kitchen or by the same window or whatever and I wish he hadn’t of died for the sake of that girl because I know how it feels to lose a dad. But I still don’t believe the orginal story.

I am a sophmore in college and majoring in English and just to let you know any proper noun which are a directed noun such as a name, a street name, a city, state, country are always capitolized no matter where they are in a sentence! Just a little english lesson there for and I don’t think anyone really expects a seventh grader to know everything. But good try and next time you will know the correct answer.

This is kind of old now, but I had to comment.
The God thing being “G” rather than “g” is an a religious thing. It is not in the Greek. Christians, and Jews do it so you will have the idea they they are refering to Yaweh/Jehovah. Just like in some translations, when they use “Y” in you, and “S” in son, its refering to Jesus, or any deity in the trinity. or should I say “T”rinity.
In other words, is all made up. There is not rule that says you must use one type letter over another. Its done by some people out of respect for why they believe in, and what they hold dear. To say that you MUST use “G” is just flat out silly, wrong, and bias.
If its part of your practice of religion, great, but to not shove it in someones face. Its not right, and has no basis in fact. If you want them to respect God as you do, convert them, and move them to want to respect your “G”od.

I used to live in Russelville and I talked to the lady that lived there at that time. The window was painted white then. She told me that they had changed windows and the image would come back. Painting it at that time was the only way to keep the image off. This story came out in the Courier Journel magazine part years ago. They had pictures with the story.
The image could be seen on a stormy or rainy night. My mom and dad saw the image one night when it was raining.

Look, ever since I could remember I’ve been poppin’ my colla’ and all I know is that this story is DUMB! First of all, God is not this mean person where just because people cuss at him he’s going to “strike them dead”. He’s a nice guy and what he does to correct the “bad people” is he lets them live like “bad people” and then they go to Hell…just like that. He would never strike anyone dead. Plus, I’ve cussed at God many times when I was angry, just because I was dumb and was questioning my belief. I actually told him that I did not believe in him anymore. (I do now, of course, but at the time) and if all this girl did was cuss at him and not question her belief in him then I should have been struck dead as well. Poopy sticks on that girl, the myth busters have spoken…MYTH!

I have also looked this house over for years. It is the care taker house for the largest cemetary in Russellville, Ky. Other than the original story about the girl who cursed God and got struck by lightning I have never heard of anyone else dying there. My mother used to work in a convenient store that was located across the street from this window of the Sexton house. If you want to see the Sexton house it is located on W. 9th Street in Russellville, KY. Alan Young car lot is where the convenient store use to be that my mother worked at.

Wow….I grew up almost across the street from the Sexton House. I lived on Cherry St across from the cemetary. It was the girl who ‘died’, no the father as some of you seem to think. It’s funny how so many people have turned this legend into an argument. Be ashamed of yourselves.Why argue about something you can’tprove or disprove? And for the record, though it made for many good nights walking through Maple grove at midnyte in the early 90’s, I’ve never seen the girl. I wish I had, but she just wasn’t there….

I write ghost stories for websites and really enjoy it. I work for a newspaper. I really love to write and read. This story is really UNdetailed. By that I mean that this story is just “blank text” as we say on the newspaper staff. It doesn’t make since. First of all what does it mean “imprent”??? Does it mean the lightning blot imprent?? my step-mom grew up in russelville and whenever we went to her house (back before she married my dad) we would always drive past this house and the window was always painted over but one night i was going over there late and i saw a shadow in the room. not saying it was her, just saying there was somebody or something on the other side of the paint. and there are a lot of different versions, but this is the one i’ve heard most often.

The man who died in the house is a relation of mine. He did not die because of a “haunting”, he died of a heart attack (which is clearly stated in the not so accurate story of the sexton house posted here). Sometimes people have heart attacks with no indication that it’s going to happen. It might be a different story if many people had died there, but they haven’t. Don’t attribute his death to the haunting, the two have nothing to do with each other. Secondly, the “image” didn’t come back again and again. The story is that on a stormy night you can see the girl’s reflection in the window (or the now painted window). I have personally never witnessed this, nor do I know anyone who has. The beauty of living in a town with it’s very own “ghost” is having the story told nation wide. The horror of living in a town with it’s very own “ghost” is having the story twisted and butchered nation wide.

I’ve driven past this house so many times and I’ve heard of this story so many times from local people. My dad who died last year was 87 when he died and he said that the girl killed by lightning because it was storming and who knows who she was cursing. I’d say her parents because they wouldn’t allow her to go to the party because of the storm. All it is in my belief is a bunch of added drama that she was cursing God. Was there anyone else there who heard her cursing. She was simply struck by lightning, something that occurs to many people each year. I believe in ghosts, but this is BS and the man who recently passed away within the past year or so, simply had a heart attack. We all have to die sometime somewhere, we just don’t know when. Our bodies are electrical energy anyway, the heart being an electrical pump. Electrical things eventually play out. Our energy and soul is still around and that is what we feel and see esp with cameras and digital recorders.

Well I am 35 years old and I heard the story of the sexton house when I was like 12, my mother told me the story when we were on the way to my grandmothers house in Tenn, we passed by the house and the windows were painted, who knows if the story is true, maybe the girl just got struck by lightning getting ready for a dance, it happens all the time, people getting struck, and if there was nobody around, how do they know she cussed anyone, and if there was lightning involved, the house should of caught fire, and there has been no talk of a fire, maybe the outcome was she died to quickly and her sprit remained in the house, ?

The story of the Sexton House is true. A young girl did die that night while standing in front of a window and using cursing words against God. About Kelly however he was a cemetary attendant for the city and all the main attendants live in the house with thier families. Kelly did died but at the hospital because I know the family personally. While i have never been in the house, as a child, i did see the silhoutte in the window one stormy night. The window was painted but now has been boarded off so the image does not appear. My daughter was friends with the Kellys family and has been in the house and said at night you could hear her throwing things and cursing and if you go up the steps to the room it is extremely cold even though the house has heating. But she also said if you touched the door during her rampage it stops. But the room is sealed and no one is allowed to enter it.

Well I can’t say whether I believe it or not, Only the girl and God knows. But what I can’t understand is how does anyone know if the girl cursed at God or not unless she had someone in the room with her, I think in that she was struck by lightning from being too close to her window. It is a very wrong to curse at God, You don’t know what he can do, and I also think it’s wrong for people on here to be making fun of this story. We don’t know that it did or didn’t happen. I am the type of person who is like “I’ll believe it when I see it.” Besides this person is only telling a story of what they heard. This is a question to the person who said how do we know that God even existed?…How do you know that he don’t?

I been to Russelville many time to visit my cousin. The house is not far from her home. It a nice looking house with a graveyard behind it. The top window is board up, and also been painted over as well.
There are different stories about what happen to the girl. She had a dance, wedding, and much more to it. But it still claim to be haunted. That the girl shadow appears when it storms.
The house and the window. Going to be told down in stories to come. So no matter what you hear from others. Main thing is the girl. Only ones to know the truth, is herself and God.

Some of you do not know what you are talking about. I lived in that house for a very short time and all is true about it being haunted. My twin aunts are burried by the house in the grave yard and they too knew the story. They were 90 years old when they passed and they could tell stories about that house that would make you want to stay up nights. So trust me the stories are true. I saw the image my self or I would probably have dpoubts. Some of you should go visit waverly hills. Npw that would prove a point.

I have heard about this story before…many times. See, I live in Todd county, right beside Logan county, where Russellville is. I go past that house alot and I always have an erie feeling. My mom remembers when they were filming a small movie/documentary about it. I really don’t know if i believe this whole story or not, because im not so superstisious, but i do know that cursing God is wrong and that you can be punished one way or another. So don’t be a dummy and give God your love!

wow that is pretty creepy… Lets go! This is a very intresting story! I am intrested into the paranoemal I watch “A Haunting” and “Ghostbusters”. I think I am getting more intrested into the paranormal! Just wondering… Have and of you all experienced any paranormal activity?

I don’t know what stories are true, but if you have lived there I guess you know. There is such a thing as spirits some good some evil, what we do while we are alive is what decides our afterlife.

I beleive Russelville has quite a few haunted places being that me and my family have lived in a place here before that I will forever know is haunted. Look at it’s history as far as the Civil War goes and all. Most of all the cemetaries out in the country are all filled with bodies of the ones that once fought here. Even though the place we lived I beleive was haunted by something much far worse(being it got physical) still I think this town has many ghost.

No seriously people it can be true! There is a place in South Africa named ‘voetspore’meaning footprints.
Legent has it that a farmer cursed God about the bad drought on his farm and then he got struck by lightning.
Today his footprints can still be seen burnt into the ground where he stood when he got struck by the lightning. Nothing grows there even if it raines.
So I don’t know maybe it is true…

I hate to tell all of you this but Kelley was a friend of mine as well as his stepson kyle and Kelley’s death was not for no apparent reason. He did have a heart attack yes, but it was not do to a haunting. He died at the home but was not pronounced dead until he arrived at the hospital. As far as the upstairs room in the house the whole thing is now a ceiling and has been for years so you cannot even get to the door of the room because it no longer exists.

I grew up in Logan County and this was a staple ghost story with a lesson, it’s not nice to curse God. I never witnessed the image, but I’ve heard many others say they did. Very few of the witnesses were adults. Draw your own conclusions. Happy fact finding!

And i am in the 6th grade and 12 years old and i actually know alot more than some of these people on here typing and i really don’t care what you people think because i have my own way of thinking so you have just officually heard me opinion…
