Real Haunted House

Some railroad tracks on the south side of town (the sticks)

San Antonio, Texas

While on the way home, a bus full of first and second graders broke down while driving across these railroad tracks. Rather than going to look for help, the driver told the children to get off the bus and push it across the tracks; they were struck down by a train. Now it is said that if one drives to the site and puts the car in neutral, it will be pushed over the tracks. Allegedly if one spreads baby powder on the back of the car before going to the site, he will see fingerprints when he leaves.

Train-School Bus Collision: Riverton, Utah
Time and Date: 8:43 a.m., Dec. 1, 1938
Weather conditions: Fine snow.
Event: School bus drives on to rail-highway grade crossing in front on an approaching train.
Injuries: 23 school bus passengers and bus driver die, 15 school bus passengers injured.
Accident report: Interstate Commerce Commission report No. 2315.
Description of the collision: A westbound Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad freight train travelling at 52 mph struck a school bus operated by the Jordan School District occupied with 38 students at a county road crossing approximately 2.7 miles west of Riverton. The school bus was demolished in the accident. Report No. 2315 stated the train’s engineman said the locomotive’s whistle was sounding and when the presence of the school bus was noticed, the train’s air brakes were applied in emergency as the train approached the crossing. The light snow falling at the time but vision was estimated to be about 2,500 feet.
A witness said the bus stopped at the crossing and then proceeded on to the track at which time it collided with the train. The surviving students said the windows of the bus were foggy and steamed at the time and it as impossible to see through them. None of the pupils said they heard the approaching train. An investigation showed there was nothing to obstruct the eastward view of the driver other than foggy windows. Visibility was determined to be about one-half mile and the train’s whistle was sounded along with the application of the emergency brake prior to the collision.

Cause of accident: “This accident was caused by a school bus being driven upon a highway grade crossing directly in front of an approaching train,” report No. 2315 stated.

As evidenced by the above posting there never was an accident, of the nature decribed, in San Antonio. How ever there is what is refered to as a magnetic hill in San Antonio as this Wikipedia Entry states

San Antonio, Texas: At the corner of Villamain and Shane Roads. Travel west on Shane Road to a flat area before a railroad track just east of the right turn onto Villamain. Putting the car in neutral which will cause the car to roll up and over the railroad tracks. Urban legend has it that the ghosts of children killed at the intersection are pushing the car over the tracks, and that powdering the back of the car will reveal their handprints. When performing this experiment, any handprints that might appear were probably already there; the powder allowed them to show up. This area is known as the Ghost Tracks to locals, and the subdivision adjacent to it supposedly has its streets named after the children who died on the tracks in a schoolbus accident with a train in that spot. It is a popular place to take a date on Halloween night. Traffic backs up for half a mile waiting their turn over the tracks. [72]

Hey This is the same story we have in our town in NE Oklahoma. It is called Gravity Hill. Urban Legends are so stupid and unbelievable.

I’ve lived in San Antonio almost all my life and have been a paranormal researcher and investigator since I was a little girl. Hard to believe, I know. But it has been a passion of mine since I was in elementary school. Anywho, there are no records of this particular incident happening on Villamain and Shane Road but there are reports of bodies being dumped out there. The place used to be a lot scarier before the new subdivisions started sprouting up. I’ve had weird things happen to me and different groups of friends and strangers alike. As for the unleveled road. If you start at the very top of Shane road where the curve is, you’re bound to move downhill at a fast rate. You’re actually supposed to stop the vehicle 5-10 feet before the RR sign. I hope this helps.

I’m sick of hearing this lame *** story.
I’ve leaved in san antonio my whole life.
and
its getting really really old.

and if your gonna plaster this make beleive story then at least say it right.
theres no way in hell that the bus driver would make the kids go out and push the bus.
adults cant even do that on their own.

also, if you search that accident it doesnt appear in the books.
but one does appear similiar to that.
but its not even in Texas.

AND

if you put your car in nutrel it goes forward on its own.

sorry to burst your bubble kid.

You always hear this story, here in San Antonio, every Halloween. The Express news published an article about haunted places here, including the one about the train tracks. The paper also reported that there had never been an accident involving a school bus and a train. The reason the baby powder sticks to the trunk of the car is the natural oils on your hands gets on your car trunk every time you open and close it. The fine powder will stick to the oil already on your trunk and look like hand prints.
This is just an urban legend. I’ve lived in other cities that had similar stories.

We have that same story here in Prosser, WA. We call it Gravity Hill now, because there are no tracks. I haven’t been there personally, but if you talk to the Benton County Sherriff’s Office, they are afraid to go out there.

I’ve heard this story before but it was so different. I was told about the crash but the only difference is that I was told that if you put your car to close to the rail road tracks something pushes the car back not forward. Maybe the person that told me got it confused. I don’t know if this story is true. Never been there and I don’t plan on going.

hello I have been to these tracks several times and have taken my kids and their friends several times it is true it does push you but what happened one night to us was so crazy I had just been hit from behind on my ford escort wagon and my interior light would stay on so I removed the fuse that would cause the light to work unfortunately it also controlled the radio but I could still use the tape cassette well when we started rolling over the tracks my radio and inside lights came on it was very strange and we smelled a faint cologne that was flowery well no matter what they say about this legend I know that there is no scientific reason that this happened so I believe something is happening there but I do not feel threatened by it I no longer live in San Antonio I so miss all the wonderful places there ……Dorothy

I’m sure many others above already stated that there is no such collision in any historical records at this location. The names of the streets are from the land developers family. However, I do have a friend that did this when he lived there years ago, and since it was a foggy night with dew on the car, they didn’t bother with powder. He said he was in the backseat, and as they killed the car, it lurched forward as if it had been tapped by another car, and he physically saw little hand prints appear on the back and side windows in the wetness of the dew.
