Real Haunted Houses

Real Haunted House

Tavern

Brainerd, Minnesota

Sometime in the 1800′s two Indians were picking berries near the edge of town, when a group of angry white townspeople found them and dragged them back to the center of town. They were accused of raping and killing a young white girl and they were hanged outside the local tavern. A few years later, a white man confessed to raping and killing the young girl. The tavern still stands in downtown Brainerd and sometimes at night when the bar closes, people have reported hearing the cries of Indian people and the beating of drums.

this is for lindsey- the americans did not trick the indians out of their land but lied and broke their own treaties to get land. if your are indian it will behoove you to know your own history. also the indians did not take liqour as payment for stolen land

Wow! You got the story way wrong with the exception of a single basic fact! Plus, the tavern in question is not standing anymore and hasn’t since the early 1900′s.

This story is just another example of racism that is accepted by society. Honestly, when a Native or Indian soul is trapped they become something different, something natural, like plants, animals, etc.

@your mom – Indians in America and Indians in India are different. They have different cultures and differs a lot in every aspect. Get an encyclopedia.

to kiki,
not to be rude or anything, but, it would take more than tobacco to put these “ghosts” to rest. This is mainly because of how tobacco has been treated and is now used. Yes tobacco would work, but first you would need to burn sage and encase the area in smoke.

I’ve lived in Brainerd for over 25 years, and yes there are quite a few places that are haunted.

Far as I remember the Last Turn was built upon the location of the previous building, and my brother used to cook there and has told me numerous stories of late night occurrences.

Really want to get yourself spooked, beneath the railroad yard is a vast set of tunnels. About 10 years ago I was working for a contractor that was doing much of the repair work in the yard, I’ve seen some of the tunnels and been in a few of them first hand and personally have seen multiple things down there that still send shivers down my spine when I think about them.

If you live in the Brainerd area I’d recommend exploration of the tunnels beneath the railroad yard, some of the sewer system have some interesting rooms within it, and last I checked that big bowl shaped dip across the street from the old Franklin Junior High has a locked set of doors of which I’ve heard is supposed to be the entrance to a haunted bomb shelter.

Enjoy and explore, its at your own risk.

some of you are right, the white people did abuse and take advantage of the native americans. yeah, 200 gd years ago!!! why should i have to pay for that? my heritage is dutch-german. my family wasnt even in this country at the time this happened. noone that happened to is still alive!! what about all the land that was taken from farmers to build the rail road? do they get reservations and casino money? no. i want a casino!! i want a check for doing nothing but for the luck of being born a certain race. Ok, yeah I do get a check every month from the government, BUT i’m a Army vet and I broke my back, I have numbness from the waist down and in constant pain everyday.

My friend owns the last turn and we went down to see where in the 1800s they used to travel underground and we were talking to the spirits saying revel yourself and paraying and then a lightbulb fell down and our hearts stopped they reveled our self also one time a lady was sitting at a table when a man that was very pale walked in t othe last turn and sat down in booth three and dissapeerd the lady was crying and the worker came to her and said whats wrong and she told here what happens also while a guy was closing the place down he heard foot steaps and suddenly behind him he heard hey and he ran out of there screaming come to the last turn and talk to the spirits as well.

I was once in the bar at around closing time. When I left, I noticed a cold sensation on the back of my neck. The next thing I knew my pants were down at my angles. I pulled my pants back up, then a strong force pulled them down again. I also then heard a Indian War Chant. I was so scared I ran to my car as fast as I could. It also took me a while to get to my car because my pants were around my ankles at the time. I will never go back.
