I lived in Martin/St Lucie County area for 22 years. Back in the 1900’s, Fort Pierce was, and still is (to a lesser extent), a fishing port. The Boston House on Indian River Drive overlooks the Indian River, not too far from the Fort Pierce Inlet.

Hutchinson Island, the barrier island that forms the fork of St Lucie River, served as protection from the Atlantic Ocean.

Indian River Drive, on the mainland was a main thoroughfare from Stuart, Fla (then known as Pottsdam), to Fort Pierce. There were no bridges to Hutchinson Island during this era, it was only accessable by boat until the 10 cent wooden bridge was built in Stuart at a later date.

Many of the houses on Indian River Drive had, or may still have what is known as a widow’s walk on the third floor or roof of the house. These were platforms or “porches” that overlooked the river/inlet so that the wives of the fishermen could sit in view of the river/inlet and see thier husband’s vessel return from the sea loaded with fish.

It is rumored that the woman that haunts the Boston House in Fort Pierce lost her fisherman husband and son to to a storm in the Atlantic sometime in the early 1900’s. She is still waiting for their return.

There is currently (1997) a lawyer’s office in the house. Every so often, she has been sighted walking the widow’s walk. Several people have experienced a chilling breeze in the stairway leading to the second floor, and the feeling that someone was passing by as they were climbing the stairs. Some have reported the faint smell of a woman’s perfume as the hair stood up on the back of their necks.

Fort Pierce is still a fishing port. I think one or maybe two fish houses still remain. I haven’t lived there since 2004.

You guys are funny. Go USA. As far as the hauntings; I’ve never seen a ghost, but it’s sure fun to believe in them. That said, I hope I NEVER see a ghost so I can avoid crapping my pants. Thanks for keeping me informed of the places I should stay away from.

i have lived in ft. pierce for about 11 years now, and everyone and their dog knows about the Boston House. i went to school across from that house, and have heard the stories for as long as i can remember. But i dont recall hearing about a woman hanging herself. The story goes, that her husband and son went out on the river for a day of fishing, and never came home. She’s said to still be watching and waiting for them to return on the top floor of the building. I’ve talked to people that know people who have seen things in there.. like papers being shuffled around and copy machines going off. It’s pretty crazy, and I think its kinda cool.
rock on fopo!

Hi, just reading through your threads, I’m a paranorma investigator and the only place I truly believe is haunted is FIT/old Leach Mansion on IRD. I’ve captured a few weird EVP’s in there, scary place. As far as the “Witch cememetery’, I saw it up close for the first time last week, mostly family plots which extended back pretty far. The people who told me it was a witch cemetery I thought were mistaken, all I saw were masonic symbols on the graves then as I was about to leave I checked the very back head stone and sure enough not only was it a pentagram, but an inverted pentagram which means for them to have that carved on their grave you have to be very deep into it. I was wondering what stories about the cemetery anyones heard? I plan on doing a full investigation next week. Thanks.

I was born and raised in Ft. Pierce. I have been in the Boston House. And I have heard all the stories about the women. I do beleive her spirit remains there. I was sitting in the waiting room while my husband was meeting with his lawyer, I did smell roses
and a door closed by its self. There was no way a draft could have closed the door. As for the cemetary, if it is the one I am thinking about. We used to party there when we were kids. We never saw or heard anything. Jay, I am very interested in what you find out in your investigation. I hope you will write again about what you find out.

Thats not the story the locals tell. The story is that a women and her husband and son once lived in the Boston House. One day the husband and son went out fishing and never returned so to this day the woman waits looking out of the attic window for their return. I know someone who works in the Boston House and they told me that the ghost kept blowing her papers off her desk so one day my freind got agrivated and yelled stop and since then the ghost has never done it again.
Have you heard about the ghost in the PP Cobb building
its a really old building in downtown Ft peirce. the ghost moves the furniture around at night. He only moves the furniture in a few rooms on the second floor. If you tell him to stop he will for a while. I dont know the story but i have heard him moving the furniture at night. One night i was downstairs below the room and me and my freind were talking about ghosts and she said that she didnt believe in ghosts. Right when she said that we heard a loud crashing noise. Then we heard noises like someone was moving furniture around. the next day we went up to the room and asked the people who were renting it about what happened and they said oh yeah its a ghost. You can hear him moving around the furniture almost everynight.

if you all want to know the real story behind this boston house, i have had an expirience first hand. as i was walking home from the store i was in a bit of a crumy mood so i decided to take a litle detour to see some of the sights along the drive. as i was walking past i looked up into the window of the top story and saw a womans face. i could not believe it! the storys were true. i went to get a closer look and as i was walking up the steps she vanished. i decided to take a look around the house and in the side window there was a shadow. the shadow was what looked like an older woman in a dress. she kept looking out at me and it was freaking me out. as she would peek out of the blinds i could see nothing inside but the shadow would still be there as if a person was standing there. freaky huh? its true man, i swear!

There is a park in Port St Lucie that is “claimed” to be haunted. This park is attached to the C-24 canal. There are trails and a fishing spot. I’ve been to the park, but it was a while back. There is a trail out in the back field, it’s not attached to the other trails. I didn’t go, but my ex did. I told him about the murders that happened back deep in the woods that I read about. There is this one tree that is claimed to have a spirit and cannot be cut down. I’ve read about it on different websites, but would be interesting to find out if there is anything out there.

I was born and raised in Fort Pierce and have personally seen the ghost at the Boston House. They are doing remodling there, so this might be a great time to see what lives there.

Hey guys.. Ive read all the posts about the Boston House and then the others leading to a “witch cemetery”.. So, last night, since we were bored out of our minds.. My sister n I took a drive trying to find this place with no luck.. If anyone has a landmark or something that would make it easier to pin point, I would really appreciate it.. I have a strange hobby of photographing cemeteries n head stones..

Thanks for the post.. They all were informative…
