I’m from Pittsfield, and I am almost 100% certain that there is no home in Pittsfield known as the Brown Mansion. My town is small (pop. 4300), and any home that would be called a mansion, built at a time when military service was an alternative to prison, would be found in my neighborhood. I’m very familiar with the history of Pittsfield and of Pike County, IL, and I never once read or heard about some guy committing suicide that way for that particular crime. If the author of this site could provide some particular information, such as the time Jim Brown lived in the home or the address of the home, it would be very helpful. Also, a friend of mine from Pittsfield is a paranormal enthusiast who really knows his material and does his homework. If this haunting exists, he would know about it. He doesn’t know about it. With that said, until the author of this site can present me with a physical address or a picture of the home in Pittsfield, I can’t believe it.

I to also live near Pittsfield, and have my entire life and have never heard of this so called mansion. There are families in the area with the last name of Brown, but the Browns that I know have never heard of this home or this man. This story is a fictious lie. Period.

The house they are talking about is the two story apartment house at 111 E. Fayette and the reason I know this is because there was another story on the internet about it and it gave the address now one of my dads friends lived there about 10 or so years ago and never said he seen or heard anything and he lived in one of the upstairs apartments. I have no clue if this story has any truth to it or not but I thought I would clear up where it is located.

It’s obvious that everyone who has posted on here is a child, I would guess no older than 12! First of all, the naked guy in the window probably isn’t a ghost but some old lonley man who has become a bit unstable mentally. I actually have had an experience similiar to this. When I was 15 or so there were stories of this guy that everyone called “Mushroom”, he would chase after your car naked with a pitchfork. The only difference was he wasn’t a ghost. So a couple of friends and I drove out there and we went by his house the first time and all his lights were on, we go by a second time and there he is, standing in an upstairs bedroom with it all hanging out in the breeze. So a guy friend starts yelling his name, he dissapears from the window and comes out the front door, still naked with his pitch fork in hand. True story, but now I feel bad for taunting the old guy. Yeah I’m from Pittsfield, I do paranormal investigations, and I haven’t heard anything about this “Brown Mansion”. I mean, I’m sure there are a lot of haunted houses in the Pittsfield/Pike County area. But the small town conservative atmosphere tends to keep topics like this pretty hush hush. So it wouldn’t likely end up on a website. You’d have to hear it from a local, and as I already stated, I haven’t heard a damn thing.

Ok guys I live in a small town called Griggsville about 8 miles away from Pittsfield and I think the house may be accualy haunted considering the people that have lived in the house have blocked off the front and live the back. I have been in the house and the front is not even is liveable condidions any more but the whole thing about the furniture is BS people dont lie close enough to the house to even hear the furniture moving to report it.
