The Bush House
Many people have claimed to see the apparition of “Alice,” a young woman who hanged herself at the turn of the century when she heard that her lover was killed in a mining accident. As it turned out, her lover had not died; he came home and found her dead.

So the place is for sale its super sad, its falling apart as I type, its gonna take way more money to fix then to buy. The foundation is the reason as to why Laurell gave up on it in the first place. The place has been robbed of its antiques and beauty. No one even bothered to remove and pack anything, its so bad because the things in that B&B are old and historic and for someone to just let it go to waste is just upsetting, its about the only history Index had alive, its becomeing one big ghost town.
If anyone has any ideas on how to help restore or get donations for this place please let me know. I used to work here and live in the town for about 5 years and it was one of the best places in my life to live, I was a city girl who met some of the coolest people and had such a good teenage life here. I would hate to see the town wash away like this.
THank you,
Darah

Today i was at the Bush house with a couple others. I had the opportunity to meet most likely the final caretaker. He has lived there for the last 3 months, and he shared vivid stories of all kinds of spooky experiences. I am very interested in the restoration of such a place. I do not ignore history, or unconfirmed accounts of deaths or tragedy in a location. However, we live in a world of life and death, and so often untimely tragic death, yet all souls are required upon death to give account of their life, not to overstay their welcome after check out time at any hotel. If their is spooky activity at TBH, its demonic, and not to be messed with, not entertained by, or communicated with. There is only one Spirit stronger than those encountered there, the Holy Spirit of the triune God and Lord Jesus Christ. He is also not to be commanded about as an errand boy, He is God, ALmighty, and to be petitioned by His grace and power to cleanse that place. Demons must submit to HIs will but as a human do not engage a battle that you have not been directed to fight in. I hope the BH survives the neglect of humans and is restored to strength, to bless many, and to never bring curses again.

Mike,
I also am interested in the restoration of the Bush House! Please feel free to contact me if you are truly interested. I am interested in preserving history and yet making the Bush House into a successful Bed and Breakfast. I have written a small bit on my blog about the Bush House for any who would like to read. I loved my visit last summer. I took my contractor with me for estimates, and depending on both the unseen needs and the contractor bid, there is a possibility of restoration. Unfortunately the house is in a sad state, which means it would not be open to the public for a few months at the very least, which should be taken into consideration.

I live directly next door to the Bush House and I can say that it is indeed haunted because the gosts visit us. Our house is not for sale, by the way. It was renovated and we began leasing it a couple months ago. The owner did not tell us about the Bush House history though, we heard about it from the local townsfolk after I mentioned the strange things happening after we moved in! I am a Christian and didn’t think I believed in gosts, but I am convinced that something is going on here. Our bedroom window faces the side of the Bush House, and sometimes lights go on and off upstairs in the middle of the night. I have also seen a woman in a white nightgown with long hair at the window. As for the activity in my house, it is not malicious…I think they are just bored. Before I read all the comments here, I felt like there was an adult man & woman and a little girl presence here. I guess I was right! Doors sound as if they are being opened and shut but are in the same position if you look at them, and lights turn off by themselves. Funniest of all are the soaps. There are three sinks in my house and I keep soap and lotion at each one. They sometimes get turned around 180 degrees so you have to turn them back around to use them. Lately I have started hearing footsteps in the middle of the night which I don’t like at all. I go out there and of course I see nothing but I continue to hear the footsteps walking away from me. I heard also that just before the Bush House closed some people got drunk at the lounge there and decided to play “chicken” on the train tracks right next to it, and a man died as a result. I am losing sleep over this because my husband works nights and I am here alone with my kids. I plan on asking our friend to pray over the house with us this weekend. I’ll put up another post next week and let you know what happens. As a side note, when we first moved here in April it had a For Sale sign out front but that has been taken down. No one knows if it is still for sale or not.

I’ve been to the Bush House on several different occassions. It is definitely haunted! I would LOVE to go back and investigate more. I aquired an EVP and several pictures with apparitions in them while at the Bush House in January/February of 2008. We also had many personal experiences there…heard footsteps in the kitchen, cold spots and a strong scent of lavender in room #9. We meet the care takers once while there and they told us abll about their experiences. It IS haunted!

i visited the Bush House in the 70’s A friend’s parents had bought it and restored it and were running it at the time. I heard a story that Teddy Roosevelt had stayed there ar one time. The owner, Maureen, my friend’s step-mother let me go thru a nunber of old hotel registers she had found in the attic and, low and behold, there it was, in the early part of the century, when he was still president, the signaure of teddy roosevelt. he really did stay there on one of his trips west as president. also found a picture in the archives of roosevelt sitting at his desk at oyster bay. truly a historic house.

Drove by the Bush house yesterday on the way to Leavenworth. Juat a run down abandoned old restraunt and hotel, kinda sad. There was a house next to it that didn’t look much better. I was just wondering how much business they did get way out there when it was open.
There was a memorial park across the street..there was the name doolittle engraved on an old swa blade. Wonder if those Doolittles are reated to the ones barried up at the Maltby cemetary..hmmm We didn’t see anything there that looked “haunted”. Of course it was during the day. But if you went there at night you most likely could scare yourself. At night most anything can be scary.

my friends and i have visited the bush house several times, we’ve never gone inside or walked on the property at night, not wanting to be disrespectful to the people who might own it. i’d love to go in and check it out, or talk to the grounds keeper.
the first time i went there, i got a really bad feeling,it was like the air was really thick, i didn’t want to roll down the windows, i just wanted to leave but my friend wanted to drive around so we did.
The second time we went by, a few months later i didn’t feel anything.
The third time my friend and i went to the house was probably the most disturbing, when we drove up to the house there was this overwhelming feeling of very deep grief. this time my friend felt it to. Sinse another group of friends of my friends had recently expressed interest in paranormal investigation,my friend who i was with and i pulled out our phones and started taking pictures of the house to show them. I wanted to check out the pics to make sure I’d gotten good ones so I went to the picture file on my phone only to find that none of the pictures of the house had saved, only the picture I’d taken of the forsale sign. I pointed this out to my friend and almost immediately his phone started beeping that his battery was about to die, and that it needed charging. Curious about this, i looked down at my phone, and in the less than 10 minutes that we’d been there my battery had gone from full to half empty as well. The weird thing about the batteries is that him and I had gone to Leavenworth, I charge my phone at night, and we’d kept our phones on the charger in his car all day and a couples miles from index he had just taken his phone off the charger, so it had been completely full of energy.and the weird feeling that was there when we approached the house seemed to stick with us untill we were well out of index. call me weird, but it was such an overwhelming feeling of grief that i acctually started to cry, which had NEVER happened to me before.
I do believe alice, or annabell, or whatever female enitity is there is very sad. That she’s not trying to hurt people and be malicious, but that she’s trying to find her love, or her way home *if that makes any sense* trying to get to the place where her soul belongs.
I’ve heard about the other people dying, but the only thing I feel is one very sad female yearning for something it seems that she can’t find or get.
If anyone who lives in index would be willing to give me a tour of the house, or share their experiences with me, I would love that! I don’t want to be disrespectful to the town or the people there so I’ve never gone into the house or anything which is something that if the owners would allow, I would REALLY like to do!
Also one of the times I went up I noticed that the for sale sign is gone, and that the vines I remember growning on the front of the building are gone *I don’t know if they just died ‘cause it’s getting close to winter, or what* but if anyone knows anything about that and would care to share, that would be lovely.

I visited the Bush House several times before it closed. It was a wonderful place for a weekend getaway and as a place to stop for dinner after a day of skiing at Stevens Pass. The upstairs rooms were adequate for an overnight but were not very comfortable chiefly because they were very small. I think it would be wonderful if the Bush House could be renovated and put back into operation again. With the right management and marketing, I think it could be a successful operation that could attract additional business to Index. Ideally, the renovation of the Bush House should be part of a development plan for the town itself.

I live in Gold Bar and just recently went to the Bush House but didn’t go in due to forgetting to bring flashlights. But I took 3 pictures and later when I zoomed in on the windows, I saw what appeared to be a face in a window on the 3rd floor. I was freaked out but not quite convinced so me and a big group are going to go back tomorrow night and going around the back and inside and get a lot of pictures and maybe videos hoping to see something supernatural. If I do see something with my own eyes, I will definitely believe in ghosts from now on. But right now, it’s just too hard to know when I haven’t experienced it in person….

I used to have a family member that worked at the bush house for a while. I remember going there for the first time and wanting to see the rooms upstairs. At that time i hadn’t heard any of the stories about it being haunted. As soon as i started walking down the hallway upstairs i got a weird feeling like someone was up there watching me from one of the doorways. I believe that there is something there from the feelings i got just by being there. I don’t know if it is Alice or if its someone else but there’s something there!

I went there in april or may of 2007 it needed 280000.00 in just foundation work also window on left needed major leak repair I was thinking about buying it but the price and all that needs to be fixed was to high. I took many photos plus video of entire place. all i got was one “orb” in the bar area and a skank load of reflective dust ball in the attic to numerous for ghost, my conclution is the attics “orbs were dust reflections but the lonely one in the bar ???perhaps was a spirit it felt like it was hoping for someone to open the house once more.I do paranormal inveatigations would love to do a more formal investigation and if we get info such as rosavelt being ther we might be able to get some help to save it before its to late. I am planning to make some contacts to see if we can get a group up there to do investigating. as far as lights being on there was no electricity turned on the place when i was looking at it.
donna p.s i would like to get into maltby but have found that it is private now. if eny one knows please leave a comment here. thank you

I have visited the Bush House on several occassions when it was still open. On one of those visits a friend of mine and I got a little drunk in the bar and decided to rent a couple of rooms for the night. My friend and I heard all the stories of the ghost of annabelle that hung herself in her room by the light fixture. Nothing happened to either one of us that night but we found out the next morning that my friend had slept in annabelle’s room. Word has it that she takes offense to anyone moving the furniture even a little bit. She will turn the light on and off and open and shut the door keeping you awake. I hear it made one young man come down stairs and sit in a chair because it shook him up so much. Also Annabelle has her own table in the dining room and she will move the silverware and place it sideways and if anyone returns it back to normal she will move it again. I witnessed the waiter who was a frindly older chap move the silverware to straighten it out. I told my ladyfriend that I wasn’t going to take my eyes off of that table just to see if Annabelle would move it again. When we got up to leave I only took my eyes off of it for a moment and it was sideways again. I don’t think Annabelle was scary at all, if anything I would say she was a prankster. Everytime I pull up to the closed Inn now I feel like I’m being watched. It’s still not frightening though. I wish someone would buy the place and fix it up including the third floor which has been closed off everytime I went there. Mrs. Nordstrom was from the same wealthy family that owned the department sores and at one time the Seahawks. Someone in the Nordstrom family even named their dog Largent.

We have been to the bush house before, a few times. We have seen many many things happen there that a definatly not normal and are caused by something or someone lingering around that area. Caylee’s first time there her and her family where seeing blue t.v light flicker and go dim over and over her family saw the curtin part and someone there, that was the first trip up there. The second time me and caylee where in the back seat of the car looking into the bottom far left window and saw a woman i white standing there, the car horn was honked and she ran away, The third time we went in the basement of the cottage nothing went on but there were lots of negative energy, the fourth and our most recent so far was tonight, we saw a man in all black walk from bush to bush and around 2 minutes later there was bright flash from the window that coverd the whole room.
