I work at the Capitol, and it is my understanding that tours to the top of the dome were not allowed for some time due to the infrastructure of the dome – translation it needed repair. This has been remedied and tours up to the top of the dome are taken daily.
So if you are interested in visiting and doing 295 steps to the top of the dome, come to Topeka.

The security and historical society staff will verify the story of the woman’s suicide – you may even be able to get copies of the newspaper clippings from the time.

I work a lot of late nights in the Capitol building, and I’ve never heard any of the screaming mentioned by George. Once in awhile I get a creepy feeling that someone is there when there isn’t anyone, but I haven’t heard anything unusual.

That doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen, though!

Orbs are dust particles/tricks of light.

Smoke-like images in your picture … it’s smoke. If you smoke a cigarette whilst photographing, you’re going to get weird smoke shapes in your pictures. Ditto for fog.

I had a temporary position working as a tour guide when the capital dome building reopened. We never heard or saw anything, except for the enormous amount of graffiti that has accrued over the years. Some visitors speculated that they could see a dent in the lower railing where some say the woman “hit her head on the way down”, however none of the visitors ever reported hearing “moans”. I hate to say that this is false. A woman did jump to her death, however she does not haunt any portion of the capital from the 3rd floor up to the top. But I will recommend that anyone who is interested go on a Capital tour and then the dome tour and see for yourself.

Orbs are not dust particles or tricks of light. They are the souls of deceased people and if this is a trus store (which I’m sure it is) then kery5 saw the orb of the woman who jumped to her death as well as the other unfortunate people who died in whatever accidents they had. Don’t knock what you don’t know anything about.

I work at the capitol all the time. I move their furniture. There are times we are required to go there after they close to do some work. You will hear things and yes you will hear her humming and screaming and many more crazy sounds!

Hadn’t heard of this before. I lived in Topkea for 20 years.

I did, however, have a haunting in the house I grew up in. Not only me, but my brother and sisters as well.
We lived in a house in the Oakland area and there was a bedroom that all of us in the family had at one point or another. My parents had it first, then my sisters and then my brother and I. Anyways, there was a big closet in that room in the corner that, at the time, me and my brother would see several figures in what I could only describe as colord lights. They were green, blue and whatnot. The figures were shaped like what the quakers wear, At that time I was young and knew nothing about quakers, they looked like pilgrams, from what I had seenm in my school books. Those shapes were walking out of the closet and climbing out the window. I reemember telling my mom about it and she says it was probably the lights from the cars, but we lived on a one-way street and there was never that much traffic, plus there was a huge house on the corner that would have blocked the dtreet that would be considered slightly busier than the street we lived on and that’s not saying much.
My brother says he doesn’t remember, but he was only like 5 or 6 years old at the time. It wasn’t until about 5 years ago that I overheard my sisters talking about seeing the same thing. That was the first time that I knew they saw anything. I moved away from Topeka 20-plus years ago, but still have family there that I sometimes go back to visit, and I go by that house on occasion and only once, was that house not on the market. Maybe others had some experiences there too, I don’t know.

Sorry for adding this to here, but I wanted this out and i f someone does read this from Topeka or even that house, I would love to know if what we saw was just an illusion or was it real.

Funny thing, now my parents watch all the tv shows that deal with ghosts, like Ghost Hunters, Paranormal State and others. (For the record, my mother recently told me she heard a child describe exactly what I decribed to her, on one of the shows she watched)

Maybe, the author mistook the woman for the dude.

Tiff says:

May 23, 2008, 4:17 pm

That is really exhausting to go up that many steps.

Tiff says:

If she committed suicide than why is her spirit still haunting the place. Was it possible that she was pushed.
