The Hammock House

This house is said to have been owned by Black Beard the Pirate. Once, Black Beard saw one of his crew members dancing with his girlfriend and consequently beheaded the man on the stairs. It is said that now, more than two hundred years later, blood stains eventually become visible again though the stairs have been sanded, painted, and carpeted.

I live in Beaufort and have been on a Ghost walk tour 2 where u go to Blackbeards house and u will here some crazy things about him and how mean he was. And u might happen to here the cries of his wife who he hung in the back yard. It so scary

Im a young man from a town near Beaufort, NC. Please be aware that Everything about the Hammock House on this website is true, but isnt accurate. Backbeard is not a legend at all, he is as much of a part of the history of North Carolina as the cival war. I have been to the Hammock House, heard the ghost of his dead wife screaming on multiple occaisons, and seen where his flagship the Queen Annes Revenge is wrecked.

A myth/legend huh? Not hardly. Just this summer they pulled up one of the cannons that was on his ship wrecked on our coast. I saw it and took pictures of it before it was cleaned up. If you wish to learn, there is a book called “Blackbeard, A tale of Villainy and Murder in Colonial America” written by Margaret Hoffman. An excellent read! I suggest you learn a bit more before opening your mouth about something you obviously know next to nothing about.

I use to clean this house every two weeks about 2 years ago. The people who live there now only come down in the summer. When we would go clean there the kitchen would be dirty like someone had been there cooking. Once I thought I saw a dog out of the corner of my eye then heard him running across the floor in the dining room. I have also seen the blood spots on the stairs that lead into the bathroom but the bathroom is new with tile now.

I’ve been on the ghost walks also.Sometimes nothing happens, but other times they do. It’s not fake at all.I know the couple that previously lived there and what they saw and heard is not a joke.I wish that this Chris kid would go to the house so Blackbeard himself can scare the living **** out of him.Little punk.

I have been to the Hammock house at Night and have not witnessed any of the screams,etc. Blackbeard was a real person and hogtown is just trying to make money off of a fairy tale about blood stains. PS: If you are going to leave comments-proofread for spelling.

Hello there!
I live in Beaufort and own the Anchorage House B&B on Turner Street. When my husband and I first moved into the house I thought it was my imagination but I would hear someone running upstairs, little shadows out of the corner of my eyes, and then I saw a women standing in my living room dressed in 1880 clothing and smiling at me! Not only have I seen things but several of our guests hear and see things. I have been on the ghost tour and I can tell you that Beaufort has had 300 years of people and history living here. There is no doubt that we have ghosts here. Just wish everyone would understand they show themselves to some people and others they don’t. I have never embraced seeing them but I don’t think anyone knows what is truely out there.

I went to Emerald Isle with some friends and their family this summer. We went to visit beaufort and saw this ticket booth. They were selling tickets for a ghost walk. Well the guy we went on the tour with told us all about blackbeard and the stories behind him. We went past the house that Blackbeard supposedly lived in. Honestly i think the whole thing is bogus. The house wasnt remotley scary nor seemed haunted. The tour was a joke and our tour guide was sorry. So i dont believe any of it. Biggest waste of $20 in my life!

Amanda, if North Carolinians are so “ignorant” why do we have some of the most prestigious universities in the country. Duke, NC State, Wake Forest, UNC, etc.? Duke hospital and UNC are probably the finest medical facilities in the nation. By the way, Blackbeard was very real and quite treacherous as a pirate in the Caribbean and off the coast of North Carolina. His original homestead, and place of his wifes demise, were in Bath, NC, not Beaufort. One should be very careful when referring to others as “ignorant”! When Blackbeard was finally caught by the British navy somewhere near Beaufort it is said he was decapitated and his head placed on a stake near Beaufort inlet for aspiring pilots to see.

I would just like to let everyone know that Blackbeard was a very real person. He was as real as you and I. The Hammock House does not look Haunted or spooky due to the renovations that the owners have done to it.
North carolinians are not ignorant just because many of us believe in the paranormal. We happen to live in a very old part of the country that is full of history. There are many stories and legends around here. Many of which may not be true. However for every one that is not true there are atleast 3 more that are. In order to help those of you who have decided that we are ignorant just becasue we live in North Carolina, there are many signs and plaques around North Carolina. These signs give a little bit of history to those of you who would care to learn about our history. I live near a very small town called Swansboro. I just took my daughter trick or treating there and there are houses there that i know for a fact are haunted. If you think about the history that alot of these houses have, it is not too far fetched that something paranormal is going on.

I would have to agree with all the ppl that have said “NC ppl are not ignorant”. There are many ppl in NC that are very smart and intelligent. I also happen to live in NC but just not in an historical part like Beaufort, but I wish I did. Also many ppl use NC as a setting in book, or even movies. So there must be something about NC that they like. Im sorry you dont like NC but thats your opinion. I happen to love it and couldnt see myself moving away from it.

Haha, well i have a funny story about thiss…

One night we were on a tour of historic downtown wilmington with my cousins, and we were about in the middle of the tour and it is true by the wayy. There has been 7 families in there and they have all moved out because of the sounds in the backyard they used to hang people in the tree in the backyard. The families kept hearing screaming comng from the tree and talking and yelling on the staircase.

Well anyways back to what happened that was halariouss i had to pee so bad!!

There was a couple of bushes in the front yard. I was walking over to them and i was about to step on the yard until i had a bad feeling so i ran back and cought up with my group.
And after that as we kept walking the people said if you step on the yard somthing bad wll happen to you, plus there are cameras everywere in every spot around the house. Everywere you step people can see you. And youcan get aressted for being on the property. Aha so they could have see me pee’ed (:

But yeahh!! This story is truee!! Check it outt, very freakky!!

Unfortunately the facts have been somewhat distorted over the years. “Blackbeard” was in fact real. He was killed in a battle with royal forces off of Ocracoke Island,where incidently earlier in the day the royal naval forces had run their ships aground and had to wait for high tide to continue the chase. The popular idea is that Lieutenant Robert Maynard was the one responsible for delivering the killing blow, when in fact one of his crew, a Scottish highlander who’s name is unfortunately lost to history was the man responsible for delivering the blow that took Blackbeard’s head. Maynard to his credit did in fact shoot Teach before he was decapitated.
I appreciate everyone wanting to post their opinion but please have your facts before arbitrarily typing a post.

I have been to the hammock house, We caught orange orbs flying around the porch, blinds in the upstairs windows moving up and down. My brothers digital camera/recorder came on without him touching it. It went straight to video record. Normally, he has to go through three menus to get to video record on this camera.

We loved the Beaufort Ghost Walk!!

The Hammock House is definitely a spooky place, and the Old Burying Ground is even worse.

We have been back to both later at night, and had experiences that would curl your hair.

We do the ghost walk in Beaufort every year - just check out the pictures on their webstie

Yes he was a real person thats true. and i once a man got shot in my moms house and everytime they would paint over the blood stain it would bleed back through. IKD WHY. but it did so the part about the blood stains bleeding back through could also be true.

I took this tour two years ago and was disappointed! Our guide told us that Blackbeard chained his wife up in the basement of this house. A local delivery boy walked by the house, heard Mrs. Blackbeard screaming for help. He goes to help her, Daddy Blackbeard comes homes and kills the boy on the stairs. Supposedly the blood of Dudley Do-right is still seen on the stairs; even after sanding the wooden stairs, putting carpet over the stairs (blood comes through the carpet), etc. The house is privately owned now and I was told this story while standing in front of the house. Great story, but no one is allowed into the house in order to verify the blood stains! Why tell a story with supposedly tangible evidence but not allow anyone to see it.

for the nonbelievers… do your homework… Blackbeard was real… his name was Edward Teach. He owned a home in Beaufort. His ship was found off the coast. I’ve been to the museum that houses some of his stuff, right there in Beaufort. Edward Teach IS the legend known as Blackbeard the Pirate.
