The Kraft House

07.23.2005 | 12:31 pm | Idaho, Pocatello, United States

In 1984, after being drugged at a party by a crazed man, a young woman was taken to this warehouse. She was raped while on a chair in the middle of the warehouse, and in the process, the depraved’s gun went off, instantly killing the woman. The bullet was never found. Exactly ten years later, the manager of the warehouse had to stay late to complete an assignment. At 3:59 AM, 15 calls were made to 911 from the 15 phone lines in the warehouse. All the operators reported hearing a woman cry, “Please help me,” then a dial tone. When police arrived on the scene, they found a chair in the middle of the warehouse, and a bullet nearby.

  8. My brother works for the Poky Police so I will have him dig some stuff up. The old building is now used by Global Food and is on Kraft road but back in 1989, a few friends and I decided to go into the building and judge for ourselves. The building has three levels and we didn’t see much of anything until we started down into the basement. We almost walked right into some ritual with roughly a dozen people doing something I don’t really want to know. We ran out of there with someone on our tail and took off across the field to the North-West of the building and around the West side of Great Western Malting. The buiding really is messed up. Before Global Foods moved in I was helping with the electrical work and it made me nervous to go back into there. Many strnge things happen during the remodel and I got out of there fast. As soon as I can dig up any police files on the place I will be sure to post it. Question….Does anyone have anything on Blackfoot South. The tunnels under the place are very frightening!!!!!! but that is a different adventure!!!

  9. If either of the 1984 or 1994 incidents really took place, I’d very much like to see some details. Who was the woman? The killer?, The manager?, and what happened to the manager? Is there any proof the 1909 incidents took place? If any of this stuff happened, there should be police reports, newspaper articles, etc.

  10. I have worked in this building for 6 months, & although it is a bit creepy, especialy in the basement, I have never seen or heard anything that could be considered ghostly. I have heard that there were pentagrams painted on the floor & walls in one particular room by teenagers & have heard most of the ghost stories about this place, but as of yet have experienced nothing spooky. I think they are just stories.

My husband went on a tour of the old abandend buildings and some tunnels, he said it was creepy….sort of like house on haunted hill. He said there is a picture still hanging on the wall in one building where a guy is getting a frontal Labotomy and is still awake (My husband said the guys eyes were huge). But the creepiest place in Blackfoot hands down is the old school house on Rich Lane.

They have night guards and such.. what I did see though spooked even me (the sceptic and huge horror buff)The building is very old and creepy looking but thats not what scared me. The old school bus parked right outside the gates and the tar drop behind the building are what had me by the neck. What actually made me leave was the fact that I found a toddler’s tiny purple hair ornament clear back in the tar drops. What was a tiny child doing there???

  22. No, Suzy is not my real name and I don’t usually have any spare time but I have a migraine so skipped work and I find this mildly amusing. This is not the original story of what happened in the Kraft building but I don’t doubt that a building that was abandoned for so long doesn’t hold many stories over the years. Many ghost stories took place in Pocatello High School (library, auditorium, winding staircase that was shut off when new wings were built) and the older buildings on ISU’s campus. A girl hung herself in a locker at PHS in the early years, and late at night janitors have reported the scent of lemon verbena accompanied with cold breezes in the library. Lemon verbena was a popular perfume scent in the early 1900s. The PHS library used to be a ballroom as well as the place dignitary meetings (US presidents used to visit), etc, in the heydey of the railroad when Poky was more than just the sad little town it is now and is the site of a few ghost stories. The rooms & halls behind the auditorium balcony are said to be haunted as well. For years a light was sighted from time to time in a tiny room (which used to be where a stagehand would live and sleep) that nobody has had the key to for about 30 years–hence the door has not been opened in 30 years so how was the light turned on? There is a lot of history on both campuses, especially due to the tunnels that run underneath the downtown area. In recent times, these tunnels are primarily used by pranksters and homeless people that want a warm place to sleep but read up on Poky high and you will find some interesting tales! I don’t believe in these ghost stories but it is fun to imagine.

  26. I think i’ve heard about this place but i’ve lived in poky all my life but i heard that there is this warehouse thats haunted a friend of mine had to go to the hospital after going there but she won’t tell me about it but i see her every monday as much as i can.
i take haunted houses as a hobbie there’s this house in mccammon that used to be a hospital. my grandma used to live there i went and visited her. My room is where a woman was killed by her husband he strangled her with his bare hands.
It’s rumored that the woman was having an affair with his brother and he got mad. but anyways i was exploring and it was pretty late i went down to the basement which was the place they kept the dead and i went down there. there was nothing going on even though i had heard crying so i figured it was my imagination so i turned around to go up the stairs i got to the middle when i was thrown from the stairs and was tossed around the room like a rag doll. i started screaming and my grandma ran down with a flashlight and a basket she started throwing the contents in a circle and grabbed me she pulled my up the stairs leaving the stuff from the basket behind us. she bandaged me up gave me a sleeping pill and told me to go to bed. i went to sleep as soon as it started to work and couldn’t breathe i started to panic and swing my arms trying to hit the person. all i remember was the pressure lifting up and me passing out. the next day i told my grandma she said i just had a bad dream. i belived her and went to go take a bath. she was pretty believeable that was until i saw bruises from a pair of really big hands on my neck.
ever since then i’ve been chasing down paranormal rumors and tapeing them so i can show my friends.

  27. I’ve heard a lot of stories and this one kind of sounds good, but it reminds me to much of a movie call white noise with the girl in a chair and a guy torturing her. I’ve lived in Idaho for 8 yrs, and I’ve visited Pocatello hundreds of times, but i never heard that story before. one more thing, the person that told the story about being thrown around, the same story was told to me by someone who knew someone that it happened to. I believe you.

  28. There are many stories about the Kraft house I’m sure none of them are true. Back when I was in highschool it was a creepy place that all the little boys and girls who thought they were witches would go and play with candles and tarrot cards, harmless stuff, but as a kid a bit freaky if you didn’t know what was going on. You can’t go there anymore because it now belongs to Global Food Technologies, my fiance works for them and they have some very hush hush government grant to figure out a new way to process food if you go on there property without prior permission you will be escorted (by the police) off the premises. Fun stories but I don’t believe anybody was killed there and it’s quite obvious that secret rituals no longer take place there.

  32. Hey look, people believe what they want. Over the years stories get twisted and turned into many different things, half of which is not true. The only real way to get to the bottom of a haunting or story is to research.

As for those that believe that no used to be humans walk the earth after death, and that there are spirits, but they were never human? What the heck where they then? There is enough scientific evidence to prove there is the existence of ghosts, acutal human beings that have past, and are stuck on this earth. Peoples heads have just become so cluttered with heaven or hell, and if you don’t believe this you will go to hell or if you believe that you will go to hell, whatever. Life goes on either in the flesh or in a spirit form, like it or not, hey why don’t you try one of these days to research, go to a haunted place, spend the night whatever, take pictures, voice recordings, video. I will bet 10-1 you will find your proof. Its the non believers that are the ones that give us the most scientific evidence anyway.

  34. Well I live in Idaho Falls and have lived here for 15 years, but that dosent matter. While living hear a various amount of things have happend to me and a number of people I know. I know that there are alot of sceptics out there that call us belivers crazy. Let me tell you whats crazy 100 years ago people thought that flight was not possible and now we are going to space. NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE. I have been to diffent parts of the world and no everywhere I have gone I have felt or seen things along with others that have come along. My family is Mexican and have been to mexico a few times. When my father was a 20 he lived on a ranch in mexico with his family one night my uncles (his brothers) took off to the city and they left my father and instructed him to please stay home and not to move the pickup. After they had gone my dad hotwired the truck and took off to the foothills with his friends. He came home around 2AM wanting to take a leak went to a bush by a wall and saw some red eyes. My dad thought “oh it must me an animal” and he threw a rock at it he say it made a loud noise he grew angry and went to get my dad 357 colt and shot at it he says that it made teh noise louder. He gre very sacred because any animal even if he had missed would have ran away. He suddly said as my grandmother had shown him a young boy an old mexican prayer which translate to “Hail Mary Full Of Grace Hallowed Be Thy Name” he says he felt a breeze and the eyes had disappeared. He never took the truck again. There are a few things every true Mexican knows and you can ask any of them like: la llorona, the lights in the hills (witches) and a few more.

When we first moved here strange thing started to happen. The lights would turn off and on, his wife said one time he stude at the end of her bed and was staring at her. When my husband went into the barn to get a tool John the sprit would play with the lights, my husband got so mad at him that he yeld at him to stop and we never had problems since then in the barn. 67. I have lived here foe 15 years and I have heard quite a few different stories about Kraft Rd. Most of which I do believe are “just stories.” Others, I wish I hadn’t ever heard. When I was about 14, I heard the first story about Kraft Rd. I did what every other teenager in town did…..I went up there with a bunch of friends and some liquor. I didn’t see much that first night, but then again I was farely drunk and wouldn’t know what I had seen if I had seen anything. The next day however, my best friends mother had found out what we had sone the night before and made us go up there again. As it turned out we were exploring the wrong part of Kraft Rd. Even though we were by the warehouse, we were not in the right area to see the kind of things that we had heard about. (We had heard stories of the usual witchcraft, sacrifices, ect.) When my best friends mother took us up there the next morning she stayed in the car and made us walk into the trees a little bit. We were annoyed and really did not understand anything that was about to happen. Maybe 25 feet into the trees, we started to smell something awful, then we started to see blood. Splatters at first, then more like puddles. I think back now and I wish that I had just turned away then but I didn’t. What I saw next made my blood run cold and made my breakfast resurface. A foot. Not just any foot. It was a baby’s foot. It was very black. So burnt it was flaky. My friend and I ran back to her mom and told her. We spent the next hour talking to the police. There weren’t any arrests made that I know about but then again, why would they tell me? I was just a 14 year old little girl. I will tell you one thing though. I am 23 now and i have NEVER stepped foot on Kraft Rd. again and I do not intend to. You can believe it or not, frankly I dont give a **** either way, I told my story and that is all that counts.

  68. I lived in Poky for a while and now in Blackfoot. When I lived there I had heard stories about the Kraft place. Some friends of mine went there one night to check it out. We saw the shadow of someone walking coming from under one of the bay doors and peaked under but saw no one. Just being there was quite creepy. I had not heard any certain story on it until this one. Just a general “someone was killed there”. I would very much like more info on this story and others in the area. I am quite an enthusiast for hauntings and such.

  69. I lived across the street from Kraft Foods from about 1982 to 1964 never did see any ghosts and I played all over that area. It was in 1993 I heard from a reliable sorce that a woman had been Killed there in reference to santic ritials. I seen pictures of the police sence tape on the building and surrounding areas. There has been a gate there for some time as to keep people out. The police where called there many times to vacate the building as santanic rituals where being preformed. I believe it was 1980s when that happened just before that incident a woman was found killed in the grave yard. Pocatello has many different occult sects. Alot of things have happened there.

  70. I grew up in Poky, and as a teenager, I went with my boyfriend and another couple out there to scare ourselves. What happened I will never forget. It sounds like the same type thing happened to other folks as well. In the basement there were robes and burned out candles around on the floor (yes, there were pentagrams on the walls then) in a circle, and a chair in the middle. I had never heard the story of the rape before today, when I read this, and it really spooked me. My boyfriend went over to an elevator shaft and looked down. Someone dropped a cinderblock from above, and it nicked his head. We ran screaming from the place and to the ER because his head was bleeding a lot. He got 8 stitches in his head. I’m not saying it was a ghost, but something definately was there, hiding, and did not want us around.

  71. I was born and raised in poky for 25 yrs. I have since relocated. Me and my highschool friends went to the Kraft building in 1995. We started out trying to get in through the doors on the South end. We were trying to break the door down and it wasn’t giving in, we suddenly heard someone say “try harder”, this did’nt come from me or any of my friends. For some reason we didn’t care and were determined to make it in. We finally made it in through a window in the front. We spent about 2hrs going through each floor, noticed a lot of graffiti and vandalism wasn’t too scary. Nothing really happened until we left. We climbed out of the window that we entered in and heard @ least 6 hounds barking and howling. We were scared Sh%$$$%%, I started heading towards my car and my friends followed. Suddenly, the dogs all stopped barking at the same time. I jumped in my car, turned on the brights and flipped around. NOTHING at all, not dogs just darkness.
My brother and his friends did the same thing a couple of years earlier (this is where I got the idea). They had 3 flashlights that all went off @ the same time so they all had to get out of there holding eachothers shoulders because they could’nt see.

  73. There isn’t a dial tone after someone hangs up the phone, just silence. So either the operators were lying, or this story was made up.

  74. I was born in Pocatello, and spent much of my childhood there.

I always heard there was occult activity at the Kraft House. I explored the Kraft House several times with friends, and saw pentragrams painted on the walls. It was a spooky place to be around.

What is scarier, is my mother went there one evening with her boyfriend. There was a large semi truck parked outside.

They opened the back of the semi, and it was filled with slaughtered cattle. Not slaughtered in the traditional way, they looked like they had been sacrified.

My mom and her boyfriend opened the cab, and the keys were still in the truck. She took the keys out of the truck, and they took off.

The next morning a strange man visited my mom’s house. She said he had “eyes that looked like glass”. He said he wanted his keys back, and wanted my mom to write down the name of the man that was with her. He said he had “killed a lot of people in his life, and would be back in 30 minutes to get the keys and paper”.

My mom wrote down a phony name on the paper, and gave him the paper and keys when he returned. He left, and she never saw him again.

This is a 100% true story. You can believe it or not, but there are wicked satanists that frequent (or used to) the Kraft house.

There is a lot of hard core Satanism in Pocatello, and Christians in the Pocatello area should pray that the works of Satan would be defeated in the area.

  76. I live in Ririe, about 15 minutes away from I.F. I’ve never heard of this story before, and i really dont believe it’s true. Me and my friends have been to many places like this, and none of them have scared us before. Idaho Falls is a small city compared to cities in other states. We would have heard something about a haunted house if it was real. We spend a lot of our time there. Ha, i’d sleep in it if you talked my parents into letting me.

  82. “Please use correct grammar, capitalization, and punctuation. Let’s try to keep this place looking classy. Real Haunts reserves the right to remove any comment that does not adhere to this requirement or is otherwise inappropriate.” This thread is riddled with trolls/inappropriate comments, etc. Any chance of someone actually enforcing this?

Anyway, someone mentioned that his brother was a Pocatello police officer, and would look into this. Any updates on that?

I’ve tried to Google haunted places in Idaho, and this one seems to come up a lot. There’s a post above by three girls from Kellogg (Kayla, Ally, Alicia), who say they have had some paranormal experiences. I live in Wallace, so I would be interested in hearing some more about that.

  85. I also live in Poky and this is the first time I have ever heard of the Kraft house. Really interesting story though. I also go t PHS and there are tons of haunting stories about that school. The stories are creepy and some have been ‘proven’ true. Where is the Kraft house. I’d like to see it to believe it

  89. I’ve lived in the idaho falls area my whole life now and a couple of weeks ago, i went to the old school house on rich lane in blackfoot. It was the scariest thing i had ever experienced in my life. I went with a few of my friends and we had all been drinking and one of my friends was passed out in the back seat and as soon as we pulled up to the school, she sat straight up and said “where the hell are we?” We all got the worst feeling EVER at that school. Last night, i went to the kraft house. We went under the fence and tried to find a way in but everything was locked and boarded up.. And no one had the same feeling that we had at the school house.. I do believe the stories and i love feeling scared.. I would love to get inside the kraft house, just to see what happened?

  90. Hello, My name is Mitch and I have lived in Pocatello all my life. I can tell you that the Kraft building is a real place. In fact, when I was in high school a group of my friends and I went out there to break in and check it out. We had heard so many stories about the place. Once we got there my friends decided to chicken out and stay in the car. I decided to go and check it out. While I was walking up to the building I started to hear loud voices coming from the building. The voices sounded muffled, but it sounded like there were hundreds of voices or people in the building. It was about four in the morning, NO lights were on that we could see in the building, and there were no other cars parked around the Kraft building. Once I stopped dead in my tracks hearing this, I turned around and booked it to my car. My friends and I sat in the car with the windows down to see if we could hear anything, but all the voices/sounds had silenced. It was a very wicked experience for me and my friends. Also, for anyone that has lived in Poky their whole life and has never heard of the Kraft building really needs to get out sometime.
Plus, people that think they are being funny by writing stupid stuff about there privates on message boards really needs to act a little older and have at least an ounce of maturity. It’s reasons like this that probably makes you a virgin and from the sounds of it, the love of a woman wont be coming into your life any time soon. I have an 8 year old niece that is more mature than you. And yes, I’m talking about you Victor(I’m still a virgin and live with my mommy)Montez. Grow up and act like you’re at least 12. You are not funny, just stupid. Take what I’m saying as constructive criticism. All right, enough about you.
In conclusion, I will go take pictures of this place and post them online.(They will probably be put on my my space page.) I’ll let anyone who cares know on this site once I’ve posted them. Just maybe, I will get something creepy. Fingers crossed.
Also, anyone out there that has any stories about the Kraft building or just any cool experiences and want to share it, I’m all ears. My email address is mr24drum@yahoo.com.
    Take care everyone, Mitch
(and for you Victor, I truly wish you some maturity and if you’re going to try to be funny, try starting out by not talking about your *****. You know what they say, men that talk about there little man, it is just that…little.)

  91. I have lived in Pocatello my whole life and I have just heard stories and stuff like that, so one day me and my friends all wanted to go in there but we all got way to scared and left. But on halloween night my older brother and his friends went up there and they were going to go in but they heard chains being drug across the floor, I have heard alot of stories about the Kraft Building, but I WILL find out for myself. I love being scared, so if any one else knows some reallly really scary places please e mail me at llammalover233@hotmail.com! I would LOVE to hear more stuff. :] Thanks!

  92. I myself have also gone to check out the Kraft house. I couldn’t find a way into the main building, but my friend and I looked through all of the outside corridors and weren’t too impressed. He got a little freaked out around the back by the trains, and the pitbull we brought was acting nervous, but I’ve investigated paranormal hot spots in New Jersey so I’m not easily spooked. Keep up the hunting.

  93. Well, sorry to dissapoint my fellow paranormal enthusiasts, but I just got of the phone with the criminal analyst and investigations unit of the Pocatello police department, and there has never been any deaths at the old Kraft cheese processing plant. But, if you’re looking for a good place to start- Lynette Culver was maimed and murdered at the holiday inn here in Poky. Seems like a good hunt to me. Keep searching, just know what you’re looking for before you go… there’s more than just ghosts out there.
