Real Haunted House

The Lady of the Lake (a.k.a. The White Rock Lady)

Dallas, Texas

Soon after this lake was built in the 1920s, a girl was on her way home when she decided to cross the spillway to save time. Halfway across, she slipped and consequently drowned. Nowadays, it is said that she hitchhikes in the area. After riding in the car for a while, she vanishes leaving a wet spot.

Ive heard this story too. But I heard that she died because it was her prom night & her & her boyfriend went out there to the lake & they were in the paddle boat& it flipped over & that they both drowned & they found her body but not his. And now she walks the lake looking for him & she hasnt been able to find him.. Also ive heard that she does ask you for a ride & that she will tell u not too look in the mirrors & turn around & if u do she turns to muddy water. Im not sure ive heard this story so many times switched on how she died. My uncle & his friends said they went out there at midnight one night in the late 70’s & said they saw a hersh with the doors all open with the radio blarring but no one was in it & that someone also told them that if u see her she will give u an address for u too take her too & then when you take her there they tell u that shes been dead for years & she will be gone before u get to that address so who knows? I know I was a kid & my parents took me there we waited till midnight & i saw the bathroom lights flickering on & off & it looked like a lady walking from the bathroom with a white dress on into the water but i think it was my imagination because i had heard the story & was scared but ive never been back out there& never saw anything else.

me and my boyfriend had an experience at that lake like a montha ago…but it was just paranormal stuff..no lady in a dress or anything…we were bored wasting time having a rock-throwin contest in the lake an threw rocks for a good 10mins. we both had one rock in our hand at a time. he threw his last one an i threw mines an we turned to get back in the car an leave when another rock was thrown into the lake!..we were looking at ea.other an talking an nobody else was around us at that part of the lake…we freaked out…we tried to eliminate paranormal by sayin it coulve been a fish or someone playin but we investigated an no one was around an it sounded JUST LIKE ANOTHER ROCK…no fish bubbles…weird huh?

I have been to White Rock alot. My family and I used to go early in the morning, when it was still dark outside, to go pick up soda cans. We drove all over that park and never seen anything werid. It was a little creepy, but nothing strange.

Me and a freind when down there and drove all through Lawler drive around October 1997, which is the road that she (lady of the lake) is supposed to be walking on. There is an old cemetary (Cox Cemetery circa 1840s) down one of the side streets. We went countless times looking from one end of Lawler drive to the other end and Saw nothing Nor did we see anything at the cemetary. Some parts of Lawler drive are not lit up and appears to be pitch black but still I did not find anything.

Basically, you have been given the wrong story.

The ghost is that of a young woman (actually the girl friend of a prominent local bootlegger). During the summer of ( I believe) 1927, the couple attended a dance on a excursion boat that used to cruise around White Rock Lake.( then on the edge of the city). They had a fight and as soon as the boat made shore, the woman ran to the man’s car, got in, and drove off at a high speed. The roads around the lake were just gravel then, and where Lawther Drive now intersects Garland Road, she lost control of the car and it plunged into the lake where she drowned. The ghost manifests along Garland Road where it passes the lake. She is seen as a young woman in a dress, soaking wet. When a person stops, she seems quite real and asks to be taken to an address in the nearby Lakewood area. ( a very fashionable area both currently and in the 1920’s). During the ride she will disappear. She has been seen by numerous passersby, including police who have stopped to check on her welfare.

Research into her death has been inconclusive. Dallas PD records for the time are not complete and the incident may have been investigated by the Dallas Sheriff (due to its then semi-rural location). There is also the real possibility that due to a bootlegger being involved, it may well have been an incident that was kept as quiet as possible and simply listed, without fanfare, as a traffic accident.
