The Old Bermuda Inn

07.23.2005 | 9:40 pm | New York, Staten Island, United States

This period restaurant is located in house that dates back to 1814. Allegedly, the house is haunted by a young female apparition. It is said that woman is occasionally seen walking through the dining air and ascending the main staircase. Diners have reported getting a momentary chill or feeling a hand stroking their arm or hair.

Can you believe that they are asking for correct grammar.
Well my question to you is about the woman seen WALKING THROUGH THE DINING AIR!!!!! What is that supposed to mean? For someone who wants proper grammar maybe you should do a read through and a spell check before submitting your stories.

  7. THERE ARE MANY MORE PLACES ON STATEN ISLAND THAT PEOPLE SEEM TO FORGET. A BIG ONE IS SNUG HARBOR. I BELIEVE THERE ARE 3 BUILDINGS THAT ARE EXTREMELY HAUNTED. MY MOTHER USE TO MANAGE THE BOTANICAL GARDEN GIFT SHOP THAT WAS 100% HAUNTED. IT WAS AN OLD MORGUE FOR THE SAILORS. I REMEMBER THE ODOR IN THE BACK ROOM PANTRY. ONE OF THE CHANDLEIRS FELL ONE NIGHT WHEN I WAS CLOSING UP WITH MY MOTHER- NOT TO MENTION THE COLD CHILLS BY THE DRAINS IN THE MIDDLE ROOM. THERE WAS 2 MAJOR HAUNTINGS AS WELL BUT THE PLACES NO LONGER EXIST. ONE OF THEM WAS THE HORMAN CASTLE WHICH NOW HOUSES 6 LARGE MANSIONS AT THE TOP OF GRYMES HILL. ALSO THE TUNNLES THAT CONNECTED THE HORMAN HOUSE TO THE WINERY (CLUB 700). WHEN I WAS LITTLE MY FRIENDS AND I WOULD PLAY IN THE TUNNLES (THEY STILL EXIST BUT THE ENTRIES ARE COVERED UP WHEN THEY TORN THE LANDMARKS DOWN.WE SAW A MAN WITH A LANTER BUT WHEN WE RAN UP (WE THOUGHT IT WAS ONE OF OUR BUDDIES) HE WAS GONE. WE ALSO USE TO HEAR HOURSES. THAT WAS ALWAYS THERE WHEN WE HUNG OUT. WE LOVED IT. I WISH IT WAS STILL THERE.

  9. ok- first of all, you forgot HISTORIC RICHMOND TOWN. on the cornor of aurthur kill road, and richmond road on the left hand side(comming from aurthur kill) is a small white house with a green cellar door on the left side of the house. there was a fire from the wooden stove, and two brothers burned in the second story. when you have the chance, pass by the house, park your car, walk up to the house with a flashlight, and look at the left hand second story window and tell me what you see. you will see what appears to be a young boy. i’m not joking. some see apparitions(ones who believe enough), and some don’t. and lastly-the old bermuda inn is haunted people. the woman did kill herself waiting for the return for her loved one. i felt her presence in the last stall(handicapped one) on the 1st floor ladies room. i felt really cold, and my stall light dimmed on and off for a minute as i was going to the bathroom during my cousin’s wedding reception dinner back in 2003!

  20. Hello….I believe that this is true because the woman whom haunts the Old Bermuda Inn is my relative, Martha Mersereau. She and her husband lived in that home until he was called to war. She waited and waited there for him, but he never came home. She died waiting for him, never believing that he was killed at war. That’s the whole story….

    Comment by Jessica Mersereau | 10.9.2006 | 12:50 am

  21. i’m sorry but i don’t believe that this story is true. Maybe there are spirits and even ghosts but how are you so sure that these stories ar true. The mind plays a lot of weird games you know.

    Comment by selene | 10.14.2006 | 5:21 pm

  22. To Jessica Mersereau, I read your comment re the Old Bermuda Inn, never been there - but will be going there for dinner soon. A possible reason for ghosts not bothering with certain people - maybe the ghost don’t like the person. (Just joking.) All kidding aside I do really and truly believe in ghosts - when my grandfather (mother’s father) died I would see his ghost for a short time after he died and I was not afraid. So all you others with closed minds - open up -you might one day just see a ghost or an orb or such.

  23. Well i believe that the old bermuda inn is haunted. just some time ago my cousins and i went there to celebrate a close family friends’50th birthday on the 1st floor. we were taking pictures in the lobby and wandered upstairs. there was a feeling that someone was watching us. we went onto the outside balcony. my cousin jill sat on the balcony she felt someone pushing her over the edge. when she got down she was panting because she felt that someone was pushing on her chest and making it hard for her to breathe.

  39. Hey guys,

I went to the OBI and did not feel anything strange yet. However, I did go to Richmondtown a while back (I used to shop at a place called The Marriage House)
It was a little shop in a house where a Judge performed marriages. One day I was there and I and I swear I saw the back of a bride (vail and flowers on her arm) going up the stairs. I didn’t say anything for fear that people would think I was crazy but as I was leaving a lady came in and said “wow, I smell roses” weird right?

  41. I was there once a long time ago for a friend’s Bah Mitzvah, and after reading what people have said I am recalling seeing a portrait of a lovely young woman there and being oddly captivated by it. I went upstairs just to explore and I definitely had an odd feeling and didn’t like the way the area made me feel.

  42. I had my engagement party there in the new party room that used to be the basement. I have also wandered around the place by myself because my aunt is good friends with the manager. I hate to ruin it for people but I have seen ghosts in my life at least 4 or 5 times and I know it was real, but I have not yet seen anything or felt anything in this place. I really do not feel it is haunted and I went there hoping to see something. I am usually sensitve to this stuff…but like I said… nothing.

  43. We are paranormal investigators and are planning a trip to Bermuda the first week in May. Are carry with us equipment consist of EVP recorder, night vision HD video recorders, EMF meters, Boom mike recorders, tempter recorders and the like. Using scientific methods we have managed to record both apparitions and voices that to this day can not be debunked by other professional investigators. Our plans are to visit the Bermuda Inn, equipment in hand. Are there any other places that we can investigate with out breaking the law or trespassing on privet property?
