Thearosa’s Bridge
When this area was first being settled, a woman named Thearosa lived near this bridge along with her children. Though the exact details are unclear, Thearosa eventually killed her children and then herself. Today, she haunts the bridge. The weather on the bridge is never the same as anywhere else in town. The bridge has also been set on fire several times; investigations reveal nothing.

I was just curios as to where exactly this bridges location is at ?I use to live in wichita and during my youth years there as a teenager many of us use to go to a bridge in the Valleycenter area,so i thought maybe it was there.I also remember a very long dark dirt road somewhere in Valleycenter ,when one nite we decided to investigate and we took a turn down some dirt road , well we kept driving and out of know where a strange figure appeard out of no where with a needle of some sort in it’s hand then as we drove away all scarred along the road to the side about every couple of feet we would see all types of needles on the road.Up to this day when i go out there to kansas we all get together and drive by there and yes we still see that sight

the story is that she was driving home with her youngest child in the car when she lost control of the car going over the side of the bridge. Somehow in the water she found the body of her child but his head was gone. It is said that she roams across the bridge trying to find the head of her child, trying to take a head to replace her childs head since she cannot find his. This is the story I grew up hearing while I lived in Wichita.

I HAVE HEARD THAT IT WAS AN INDIAN WOMAN RUNNING FROM SOLDIERS WITH HER INFANT BABY & WAS TRYING TO ESCAPE CAPTURE BY HIDING IN THE SMALL CREEK. THE SOLDIERS CAPTURED HER & DROWNED THE BABY. PROBABLY KILLED HER TOO. IT IS SAID THAT IF YOU CALL TO HER SAYING THAT YOU HAVE HER BABY; SHE’LL KNOCK YOU OFF THE BRIDGE. MY MOTHER TOLD ME THAT WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG; THEY WENT TO THE BRIDGE TO “PARTY”. THEY PARKED THE CAR & WALKED THE CREEK. THEY WERE SPOOKED & WENT BACK TO THE VEHICLE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN THE SAME SPOT AS THEY HAD LEFT IT. I RECENTLY WENT THERE DURING MY LAST VISIT TO THE KANSAS AREA. THE BRIDGE IS DIFFERENT. SUPPOSEDLY THE WOODEN BRIDGE BURNED YEARS AGO. A CONCRETE BRIDGE W/ LOTS OF SPRAY PAINT IS IN IT’S PLACE. NOTHING OUT OF THE NORMAL HAPPENED WHILE WE WERE THERE. BUT WE DID ASK ABOUT IN THE LOCAL GAS STATION & THE LOCALS HAD A LAUGH ON US FOR MAKING THE EFFORT TO FIND THEAROSA.

The bridge is 15 minutes north of Wichita, you will leave Wichita heading north on Meridian. When you get to 109th turn left. It is the first cement bridge. The road will curve after you leave the bridge. Good luck.

I live in Newton, Kansas. It’s really close to the bridge. I was actually there last night. The story I heard was that Thearosa was an Indian women. A white soldier fell in love with her, and they had a ‘love’ child together. When the soldier’s platoon found out about the affair, they killed the soldier, and Thearosa and the infant went on the run. When she came accros the bridge, she knew she was doomed and either…
A. Threw the baby over, then jumped herself
B. Threw the baby over so that she would not have to worry about it being harmed
C. They both jumped together
It gives you a really freaky feeling! On the corner of 109th and Meridian, there is this little fort, that has corsses, and shovels and all kinds of weird objects. We were there last Halloween, and we got out of the car, and walked around. When we got back into the car, the keys were gone, and found underneith the car, right in the middle of the bridge, and the mirrors in the car were all backwards…turned around. I about crapped myself. If you are close, I would recomend visiting this bridge.

I would like more information on haunted places in the Wichita area. I have heard mamy stories and have seen pictures with orbs of what used to be called the Rock in Wichita. I would love to share with all of you a grave yard just 35 minutes north of Wichita that is surely haunted. All 15 plus occupants are under the age of 10, but there are 2 headstones in the center under a dead tree of 2 adults. The groung is always soft and seems recently disturbed, even thougn no one goes there. The tree has since been cut since I brought a group out there, but it’s there. I proise, many people can not make the 100 yards from the road to the cemetary without freezing up and turning back. Eiv, restless, or just unable to move on, you tell me.

I would like to know the exact location of the grave yard of which you speak, Kent William. I live in Wichita and love to go to old cemetaries. I work in a town about 25 miles from Wichita, and we believe the building is haunted. I’ve been there for 15 years, and we have heard footsteps down the hall, windows and doors slamming shut, and voices. After some photographs were taken recently of some remodeling done in the building, numerous orbs appeared in some of the photos.

hey..i grew up in valley center and the track team use to run over the bridge lol. i was the manager so i would hide under the remains of the bridge and scare them. One night close to halloween a bunch of us went out there and some of us stayed in the car, some walked to the bridge. Nothin happened but we didnt do the saying. Weird thing was some weird guy showed up out of no where wanted a light for his cigarette and when we decided to leave..my brother screamed out of the window and a woman voice could be heard screaming back. ..also for those who like haunted places. Check with people in garden city. Supposely there is a cememtary there and a rumor bout a “angel of death”. Probably could ask some college kids
