Real Haunted House

Train Whistle

Berlin, Connecticut

This dirt road, blocked by a red gate, eventually leads to a house. Many years ago, while mourning the death of her husband, a woman was hit by a train. Today, witnesses say the sound of a train whistle may be heard coming from the house.

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO W/ THESE PLACES HERE, BUT HAS ANYONE GONE TO THE ABANDONDED TOWN? I THINK IT’S IN POMFRET. IT’S NOT EVEN ON A MAP, AND I’VE HEARD THE ROADS ARE OVERGROWN W/ TREES AND BUSHES, MAKING IT HARD TO FIND. I KNOW IT EXSISTS, I KNOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN THERE AND SAY IT’S THE CREEPIEST PLACE EVER-LIKE AN OLD GHOST TOWN. BUT NOBODY WILL TAKE ME THERE. LOL

Hi Candy –
Yes, the abandoned town exists. It’s called Bara-Hack, not marked, near the Girl Scout Horse Camp off of Rt 97. (look for a metal painted rail near the brook). The trail going in is a little overgrown, but pretty easy to follow. There are old foundations, and a small cemetery. But as you follow the path, you will see “things” out of the corner of your eye, following alongside. And you’ll hear hushed voices. The trail out isn’t easy to follow..I wouldn’t suggest going in alone.. or after dark. :)

BARA HACK is a real place, I’ve been there several times. It is a townie-type place, meaning all the kids/well, maybe their parents…know about this place. I come from out that way. This is not a joke, but a real place. Get down that way and start talking to local shop owners (stop at the old May-Gold’s ice cream on Rt. 44) and find out more about it. You will be surprised, it is on private property, but makes an excellent place to visit–have someone drop you off and pick you up in an hour, that way you don’t have to ditch your car on the side of the road. Be warned however (and this is coming from a 52 yr old mom who is also a teacher who is not easily impressed or influenced—and,I grew up nearby, there are unexplained things that DO happen. My boyfriend took me there–we had our flashlight go “out” in front of us and then we heard people talking and got creeped out, this was over 30 years ago. We also went back time after time. In the afternoon is a good time in the fall when the foliage isn’t so dense. Be careful where you step, there are old wells and foundations. Take a walking stick and charge up your cell phone before you go in. The weirdest thing and the scariest is that we came upon some people holding a ceremony there and we got the hell out of there. We know all about Wicca and this wasn’t wicca, this was nasty and stupid. Later, someone told me about all the dead cats (skinned) found nearby. That is bothersome to me–people doing weird things out in the woods. Can’t substantiate any of this, of course, no one wants to talk about it, but be warned; it’s creepy and other wackos use the whole pretext of the “paranormal” to cover their strange behavior…. Good luck!

Bara Hack is a real place and it is on private property. No one should just be going on the man’s property without his permission.

I have been to bara hack several times and we also filmed it for my tv show…its a very long walk and the day we went they were doing some logging in the area. The cemetery is quite a hike to get to but it was all worth it. so if you want to see the footage just go to http://www.freewebs.com/ghostlady40…enjoy

@ Amir. Yes, the train whistle is that loud. I live in the southwest corner of town and I can hear it on a clear night. I would hate to live very close to it.

I live legit like 2 miles away from the train tracks, i can hear the whistle. its pretty ridiculous. so the likeliness of the sound of a train whistle coming from one house is very unlikely. but it would be a fun adventure. as to the whole ghost town thing, that’s sounds amazing and that too would be a great adventure. Trespassing shemeshpassing! no one every discovered something great without bending a few rules ^_^
