OK.....I am not here to comment on football nor am I discussing the superiority of Auburn University versus The University of Alabama. What I AM here to do is to say that there most definately is a "presence" in the chapel at Auburn University. I am an Auburn graduate.......from the Department of Music. I was a student at AU when the Theater Department was relocated, not across the street as the article stated, but to the new facility on Samford next to the Goodwin Music Building. Once the theater moved, the newly restored chapel was outfitted with a very nice pipe organ. The organ was sometimes used by students in the Music Department for practice. On one particular evening, I accompanied a friend of mine to the chapel so that she could practice a piece she was to perform there later in the week. At the time, neither of us was aware of the story of "Sydney". When we were ready to leave the chapel, we carefull turned off ALL lights, walked to the rear side door, exited and locked the door. As we walked around the building, we noticed through the window that in an area just above the chancel area there was a light that was clearly on. Thinking that we left it on by mistake, we went back into the chapel, turned off the light and made certain that all lights were off. Once again, we exited, locked the door and started for our car. There, clearly visible through the window, was the very same light, on again. By this time we were a little shaken since it was late at night so we opted to leave the light on and go home. The next day when we were relating the story to one of our teachers, he smiled and told us that is was just "Sydney" having fun with us. He then told us the full story. I now teach at Auburn University and have, on numerous occasions been inside the chapel. Each time I am there, I remember that night quite a few years ago when Sydney made himself known to me. Skeptics can believe what they want, but I will never be convinced that the story of Sydney is not true. (and fyi.....for those who might be thinking that a defective light switch may have been causing the light to turn on again...two days after the incident I described above, my friend and I were in the chapel again and had no problem turning the lights off when we left............all of them ! )

Wow, I live in Auburn and I haven't ever heard about this at all. And obviously people like to get on here and talk about other subjects other than of course the haunting that they came here for, so if someone would like to continue this conversation that knows where I might be able to locate the building, contact me.

thank you

Yeah, I love how people comment on this without even looking into it. I am a current theatre major at Auburn University. Sydney haunts Telfair Peet still today. He takes left shoes and curses performance when he isn't fed (or is fed something he doesn't like). Before every performance, someone has to leave food for Sydney on the catwalk. We know at least that he likes Reese's Pieces and not Butterfingers.

Once while the players were preparing for a performance last year, EVERYTHING was going wrong. Props were missing, equipment wasn't working, etc. Someone asked the stage manager if there had been food left on the catwalk for Sydney. No. So they went to the vending machine upstairs and got Butterfingers and left it on the catwalk. Thing supposedly took another turn for the worse. Someone hurried to the nearest gas station to get Reese's Pieces because that candy had proven successful when dealing with Sydney in the past. The candy was left on the catwalks and all of the problems were suddenly resolved and the show went great.

You rednecks who get on, of all places, "realhaunts.com", and talk about football make me sick. Goddam, for once in your life can you think of something else besides the "Iron Bowl" (it should be called the "Grits Bowl" for all you slack-jawed yokels)? I mean, honestly, is your life that empty and meaningless that you have to attach this sort of totemic meaning to what a bunch of KIDS do in a GAME that only lasts a few hours out of the entire year??? Are you thinking, rational, adults or not? Football is worthless for anything other than mindless entertainment, so go out and do something useful with your OWN life, instead of worrying about it.

I was a theater major and I remember going down into the prop room in the basement of Telfair Peet by myself. I made a habit of chatting with Sydney, you know, just covering my bases. One night I was leaving the prop room with my hands full. I managed to get the door open by myself, but when I passed through the door, something turned out the lights for me.
