Follow Me
If a car is parked on a bridge located inside this park, turn the ignition off, and wait for a few minutes, an old woman in a white dress will appear. She will wave her hand for you to follow her into the woods. No documented account has been made of anyone ever following her.

I find this stuff interesting, my boyfriend and I would like to go and just see (he’s braver than me…I’ll chicken out) As for Alivia, if you have nothing intelligent to say, I suggest that you keep your mouth shut!! I was actually embarrassed for you read your comments. How old are you, like 5?
I love reading (or watching) a true ghost story, just a little leary of witnessing one myself.

Been going to Belle Isle for 45 years, like the rest of the once magnificent city its all slowly rotting away. It’s almost gone, It breaks my heart. The only ghosts you’ll see are robbers, crack heads and jerks.

I just stumbled across this website while searching for the real story of “The Lady In White” of Bell Isle and truth be told all of those ledgends happened. First the one about the native american’s daughter is true my grandfather first told me about it, and then I did some reaserch. . But that happened a very long time ago wayyy before it was Goverment property.. Then it was called Rattlesnake Island here is the story,,,…
The legend of the Snake Goddess of Belle Isle
Legend has it that the Indian maiden still roams Belle Isle as a deer.
Ottawa Indian lore tells of the beautiful daughter of chief Sleeping Bear. Her beauty was so stunning that the Chief kept her hidden from the eyes of young suitors by hiding her near the Detroit River in a covered canoe. The winds, awed by her beauty, blew the covers off the boat and the craft floated down the river. A keeper of the water gates, enamored by her charms, kidnapped the fair maiden and brought her to his wigwam. The winds, angry over his selfish actions, fell upon him, beating him until he died. The winds, sorry for uncovering her beauty, sent her back to her father, Chief Sleeping Bear. The chief, fearful other suitors would follow, placed the princess on an island in the Detroit River and sought the aid of the Great Spirits to protect his beloved daughter by surrounding the island with snakes.
There she runs free through the woods with the gentle winds and wildlife as her companions, since the Great Spirit made her immortal to reign over the island for eternity. The early white settlers first named the island Isle St. Clair and later Rattlesnake Island. Today the land is called Belle Isle. Legend has it that the beautiful Indian maid still roams the woods often mistaken by picnickers as a deer. Her suitor, the keeper of the water gates, is said to roam the forests of nearby Peche Island.
The Belle Isle ghost lady also attracted midnight riders to drive through the scary woods there. This search for a vision of a woman in a long white gown certainly entertained the joy riders and just as certainly irritated the neckers parked along the roads. The white deer scampering through the trees (probably frightened by the walking ghost) also thrilled the gawkers
The Ghost of Belle Isle
The ghost of Belle Isle has a couple different versions to the story, basically put the rumor is that either there is a certain bridge or any bridge on the island will call this spirit, it is said that if you drive onto a bridge on Belle Isle and shut off your engine and wait a few minutes, the spirit of a woman will come out of the woods dressed in white and motion for you to follow her in, one version even mentioned she was an elderly woman. It is also rumored that she has waved to some people just prior to motioning them in., it is also noted that no one has ever actually followed her

There are many other women who have died there, its a place that people are murdered all the time but there is one other true story/legend.
The “Lady in White” could also be a woman who died there on her wedding night in 1867. She and her new husband decided to go there their old “make out” spot before leaving on there honeymoon. She decided to journey off for a minuet and when she was gone a little too long her husband went off to look for her. When she returned and found him missing she shot herself in the head. The police found her body there and went looking for the missing husband who they found barely alive 100 yards away, lying in a marsh. Her family soon after bought and moved into what is now known as the white house. They refused to leave her there and when Bell Isle became Government property in 1879 the “White House” was the only part of the island that was excluded. Her family stayed on into the 1900’s. The house is still there now.
About six years ago I went to look for “the Lady in White” with my then best friend Gjoni. He had hyped me all up about the legend which ever lady it was we had no idea. After several attempts to locate her, one evening Gjoni & I along with a friend Carlie found what was to be an abandoned road that went into the woods. You couldn’t tell from the main road it was there but once we ventured down it there was crushed concrete and street signs inside. We saw many apparitions in the woods that night. Later that week Gjoni and I were telling my ex about the ghosts and he didn’t believe us so once again we went looking for her. The moment we got onto the mysterious hidden road we stopped dead in our tracks. Something happened that I would have never believed out of anyones mouth if I didn’t see it for my own eyes… At first all we saw was 3 tiny lights in the middle of the woods. Red, green and blue looked like laser lights. We started to move closer to the light when the entire woods lit up and a lady in a white dress no older than mid 20’s was standing there petting a white deer. Both Gjoni & my ex made a run for it but I stood there dead in my tracks mesmerized by her. I’m not sure how long I was there but they had gone to get their car and pulled up beeping at me.. It was incredible. After Gjoni looked right at me and said if i ever die I’m gonna haunt your ***.. He died one week later in a car accident. I don’t believe it was in any way related to the ghost incident just a horrible accident. Over the next 6 years I went back religiously at least 3 times a week and saw her a handful of times. I also saw a couple other ghosts and have been chased through the woods and almost murdered. Walking around in the woods at 2 in the morning in the Bell Isle woods by myself wasn’t the best idea but I was crazy. This all started in 2001 and I have been somewhat obsessed with Bell Ilse and its lady in white ever since. I promise it is real, but I have recently decided that some things are better left alone.

When I was in my late teens I had spent many nights looking for the Lady in White – been down the old road and what not. Personally I never saw anything but I do believe there are things out there.

First of all, Go Red Wings! Second of all after reding all the comments, here’s my conclusion:
*It’s a young woman, probably around 18.
*She most likely jumped, fell, or was pushed off the bridge.
*The park is Belle Isle.
*The bridge is the one going over Lake Tacoma ON Belle Isle.
NOTES:
>It might just be one of those deer they have on the island that could have escaped through the fence(one the white ones).
>The LENGEND about the young Indian maiden be banished to the island, is a real lengend, but like I keep on mentioning, IT IS JUST AN AGE-OLD LEGEND!
>Women seem to be much intuitive than men, so that might explain, why it’s mainly women have posted their experianes.
THE ONE REMAINING QUESTION:
When does she appear(time and date)?
I’ve always lived right outside of Detroit, so now I can’t wait to find out the best time to go there and try it out!

when i followed the lady in white she pulled the balls out of my pants. she directed the stuff and suddenly i was the man in white. $20 was missing from my wallet. she didnt jump back over the bridge but she got into a 1976 cadillac eldorado. i think it was her pimp. as the car appeared to “float” into the mist i swore i could hear the faint whisper “Beeyotch best got my money” followed by the sound of a slap or smack or something facsimilie. weird. wondering what kind of ghost she was.friendly in my book.

Sleeping Bear’s Daughter
The daughter of an Ottawa chief, Sleeping Bear, was so beautiful even the wind took notice, literally pushing her into an unfortunate romantic entanglement. Seeking to protect his daughter from other unworthy suitors, the Ottawa chief put her on an island surrounded by snakes in the middle of the Detroit River. Legend has it that she still roams on the island, Belle Isle. Depending on who you ask, she takes the form of either a woman in white or a deer.

It’s Belle Isle…. the park that is. Some reports say its by Takoma Lake… but they all say near the woods…. the woods are actually by Okonoka Lake. It’s very easy to find a map of Belle Isle just go to google and type “Map Of Belle Isle”

After reading all the comments everyone has a diff tale and there are 4 stories cluster f*cked in there. See Stephanie’s for the two events that happened. The girl who “jumped off the bridge” and was hit by a boat and killed never happened. And the knocking on the car is a mix between two stories of little girls, one was hit by a car on a rainey night by the bridge to Canada and drug under the car. It is said she knocked on the underside of the car hoping to be heard but was not n died, the other is of a girl who was hit on a street on the west side who knocks on windows when you drive past the spot she was killed. And FYI there is no record of a little girl ever having been hit even on the street the window knocking is supposed to occur on. That was my history of hauntings/ folkore of the beautiful Detroit for yall. enjoy kiddies. And another FYI its supposed to happen on the brige inside of the park by the wooded area, not the entrance.
