Note that in my prior post I wasn't putting down Detroit - I did mention the park being unique. They have a famous fountain, a conservatory, a museum I think; unfortunately, they had to close the acquarium, which I think was one of the oldest in the country, and the zoo, because, we broke, people. It was just that one poster above (you find it; I'm too lazy and stuff) stated he thought the story of the girl on the bridge was a legend. I was just saddened that people from out of town were going to be dismissing this woman's horrible and scary death. "oooh fun kooky what a kewl legend. giggle giggle" no, it was a horrible and sad death that should be respected. That made me think of how many ghosts, although entertaining now, were once similar victims who should be respected. The people who tried to save her at risk of their own lives should have a medal. Second, I thought a warning from an old fogey (not really) was in order, b/c there appear to be a lot of young and giggly-type people on this site in general who enjoy risking their lives in, e.g., abandoned mental homes that were shut down for being unsafe, without realizing that freakin HAZ MAT won't enter those places without full body suits. Ever work in a historic building in Detroit that has had an entire floor sealed off by the EPA for friable asbestos? Um I would like a respirator mask too, please....Finally, to keep this rant on the subj. of ghosts, I have seen two ghosts in that building, in broad daylight, along with numerous incidents of non-ghostly pipes breaking and ratty sewer water and ceiling tiles cascading down on my boss' desk, not to mention the mysterous white mold growing all over my carpet. bleh. stay out of old buildings when the mold is in bloom. ps cough, cough....ps 2 they have leasing space available! call today! discount if you mention the car that fell through the floor of the rotted parking deck onto another car beneath

I have read about this legend (although never heard it) on other sites and the legend of the woman in white apparently goes back to the 1800s. The teenager who was killed in a deplorable act of unacceptable violence on that bridge is not a legend.
http://edition.cnn.com/US/9508/bridge_death/
Suspect charged with murder in Detroit bridge death
Whether or not she fell on a boat, I don't know. The Detroit River is very cold, a mile wide or so and the current is about 25 knots per hour, and there is a very strong undertow, which means if you want to swiftly drown, jump in. Not to mention the impact of hitting the water from the bridge might have killed her or certainly incapacitated her, especially in her state of hysteria and shock. Poor woman. The Coast Guard patrols that river, and she was still miles down the river by the time they could find her body. Read what happened and decide if you want to go out after dark. Plenty more ghosts in safer locales! It's a very unique park in the river between the US and Canada, but I would not go after 7 pm.

This is Belle Isle Park. Everyone knows this story, yet I've spent many a nights hanging out at this park as a teen and I have never seen such a thing. No one I know has. I don't think any of my guy friends would be scared to follow a female into the woods! LOL!

My friends and I went to Detroit for a vacation. We drove in Abby's truck in a bridge. Then Nadine told us there was this story about an old woman will appear and bickers you to follow you. Danielle didn't believe it, and don't worry we're both 16. Okay so we waited for a few minutes and then we saw a white figure we were scared but we got out of the truck any way. The old woman waved at us. Danielle fainted, but I snapped her out of it. So the old spirital woman was bickering us to follow her so we did. Then she took us through the woods and to her grave then we saw her body. Then she disappeared into thin air. We wen't back to Abby's truck and said ''Who wan'ts pizza''? And we all said ''I do''. That night was scary.
