Real Haunted House

USS Lexington

Corpus Christi, Texas

The retired US Naval vessel USS Lexington is most famous for the ghost of the engine room operator who was killed in battle. He has never harmed anyone and only makes his presence known when tourists enter the engine room; he gives guided tours of the room. Sometimes he becomes impatient, however, and slams doors and turns off lights.

i went aboard the uss lexington with my airforce rotc class a couple of weeks ago and stayed the night. i now believe in ghosts because me and a couple of my friends have photos of ghosts in the engine room and the barber shop also in the little church area. i also heard screaming and whistling when i was alone down in the engine room.

I was there today….my mom and I were under the deck somewhere…not sure where this place is sooo huge…well was just us….and we saw this huge metal door slam..there was no one there….was behind a roped off area…so I BELIEVE….was a fun ship to tour..just thinkin about all the people in there and the emotions they felt.

I had the opportunity to go aboard the U.S.S. Lexington in 1986 while it was docked for restoration in Pensacola, FL. I did not see or hear any ghosts while visiting but, now that I have heard the stories, I would like to revisit it someday!

I served on the LEX from 1971-1975, and I can assure you that it is haunted- I experienced it myself, although I didn’t see anything-I sure felt the presence of something-
