Sharon K is exactly right, I also knew Fred as a kid and as an aduld use to spend winter over at that place cutting firewood for him. I have been in his “house” which was more like a glorified lean to. the house had caught fire and Fred was placed in an old folks home a few years back, he died there and yes the county had taken over the property “Bogers Bog”, I find it so silly when I hear the “devil Worshiper: stories, but I just laugh a little on the inside and brush it off, I have actually taken friends over to the house to meet Fred when we were kids….He really thought nothing of it.

A few things. The house with no corners is the Stickney Mansion and is now the Bull Valley Police Department. If you are looking for corroboration on your stories about it being haunted, talk to the police chief, Norb Sauers and he will verify it. Cold spots, lights coming on and off and footsteps where none should be. My husband actually had one of the balusters from the rail off the second floor balcony and I refused to have it in my house. I actually burned it because it made me feel so uncomfortable. As far as the devil house, I personally knew the man who lived there, Fred Boger. Fred built that house himself and he was an architect, not a devil worshiper. He was a very private person and erected the gate to protect his privacy…not to set booby traps for unsuspecting trespassers. The little huts that someone mentioned were actually little pagoda’s in his garden by the pond. I have been in his house and never once saw anything to lead me to suspect that he was anything other than what he was…an eccentric old man who liked his privacy. Fred passed away several years ago and the house was torn down and the land subdivided. The acreage is now called Boger’s Bog and is a nature trail. The gates were not gates to his property…the actual driveway was off of Cold Springs Rd. In the late 70’s or early 80’s, vandals did throw Molotov cocktails onto his gates on Halloween and burned them. If I am not mistaken, the vandals were caught.

My aunt took me and my sister to drive past this place to try to creep us out. It worked when we were little, but my grandmother told me that a lot of the things you hear are just stories that the “well off” people told so that working class folks wouldn’t move into their area. The house with no corners is true, the owners were into seances and held parties there. The devil house, not so much. Some are stories, some may be real.

Ive lived in McHenry almost sence the day I was born. I went to both of those houses plenty of times in high school and nothing ever happened and I never saw nething. Ill admit the stories might be true but from experiance the tales might not be. To be honest dont you think if there was truth that could be justified the oprah would have done the story while she was living not a block away from the house with no corners? I listened to the stroies for years and thats what made me go there in high school..I even walked down the driveway once…Il admit I was scared so as soon as I saw the porch I ran the other way…but nothing happened…as a matter of fact aside from the light on in the house thats all I saw.

Yes it’s true of the house w/ no corners. But what’s NOT true is the “devils house” & ppl who were devil worshipers…it was just an old house set back in their woods down a long drive way. That house is NOT haunted & there was NO devil worshiping. MANY stories have been told about Bull Valley & the “Bulll valley monster” that I grew up hearing creepy stories of. Every one needs a good scare every once in a while…all the stories are fish stories nothing more.
As far as the house w/ no corners goes. It was infact built to keep spirits out. Mr. Stickeny was a very superstious person & it is believed that spirits will manifest through corners & the reason he built the house w/ no corners was to keep the spirits OUT NOT to invite them in.

ALSO ppl who “claim” to see blood on the walls down the “devils house” driveway are liars…no such thing. it was not a sacrificial place, simply a home. No deaths, murders, or sucides were ever there nor ever happened…Tell a good story ppl , but get ur facts straight

I grew up in McHenry County, and my Mom use to drive us down Cherry Valley Rd. to get spooked out around Holloween time. The Stickney Mansion was empty for a long time (1980’s). It is true about Mrs. Stickney being a medium, and that spirts would hide in the corners. It is a stange place. The property down the rd a bit was owned by Devil worshipers, a cult of them. There was a huge wooden fence surrounding the property, and through the trees you could see a bunch of little huts, or small houses. I know that the other residents on the street would see them walking down the road, in the middle of the night, in dark robes,and chanting. Very scary! It is so scary because at both locations on this street, here were people messing around with truly evil things.I am going to take my husband and kids down Cherry Valley Rd. this weekend, to get us in the Holloween spirt!

About 15 years ago I went to BUll valley for the purpose of checking out all the hype of the stories I had heard. That rounded house that is now a police dept was there but boarded up, all but one window towards the back, up stairs was a light on we sat in the car staring at it and the light flashed and went out. HELLO no power in a boarded up house just felt soo creepy. That whole road out there.

About 8 years ago I took my daughter on that same road and stop at that devils house where there was a huge fence in front. Well I got out my car and went up to the fence to see if I could see anything. Well I did there were rusty farm like equipment look like very sharp objects everywhere. I heard that they put them there so you would stay away because if you did get past the tall fence you would run into these sharp objects and really hurt yourself.I lived in crystal Lake for over 20 years so I have heard lots of stories about it. My older brother went out there with a few buddies and he claims that he saw about 6 to 8 devil whorshipers walking on the side of the road around midnight. He said that they never looked up they just kept looking down with their black hooded robes.

My Father went there in the late 70’s and alot after that we still go there to this day, and Stickeney Mansion is not the only Creepy place on that road..There use to be this Place 2121 cherry valley lane and it use to have this gate in the front of it so one day my father was going there with his buddies and he set the gate on fire not even 2 minutes later he went back and there were no burn marks at all.. There is another time him and my mother went down there and as soon as they got like 2 feet past the gate this car appears out of nowhere and starts chaseing them so they pull into this church and there was no car to be seen, They tried to find that church again but never did…. They now turned 2121 into nature trail but I did the ouja board and It says that there is a little creek there and I asked it what about the creek it said 666……I get the chills to this day just going there..
