Real Haunted House

Waverly Hills Sanitorium for Tuberculosis

Louisville, Kentucky

(Also known as the Waverly Hills Sanitarium for Tuberculosis)

During the early twentieth century, Louisville had the highest tuberculosis rate in the country, so a hospital was opened. Many of the patients remained here until they died. The dead bodies were pushed down tunnels to the bottom of the hill where they were then carried off and buried. After the vaccine for tuberculosis was discovered, the hospital became a nursing home that is also now closed. Now, an elderly woman may be seen running from the building with bleeding wrists and ankles; she begs for someone to get her out of that place. Many have also seen people peeking out of third floor–the residential ward–windows.

I have been to Waverly Hills just this past July me and some friends went on the 8 hour tour. Most of the action we got was on the second floor that is were we seen the first set of shadow ppl. We also seen a full apparition of a nurse. We are a ghost hunting group and do alot of stuff around Hazard Kentucky. We have found that if you just go and find a dark hall to wait and sit you’ll get all kinds of stuff. we are hoping to be able to go back in feb. If anyone has any questions my email is alisha_creech_15@yahoo.com

I went to Waverly last March for an overnight tour with Brian formerly of TAPS.We all saw shadow people. Heard someone gasping for air more than once and could smell pancakes and maple syrup in the kitchen. I got a pic of what looks to be the face of the little girl starting to manifest and also got 4 pics in a row in room 502 of black mass moving across the room….I also got 2 EVP’s on the 3rd floor. I asked is your name Mary?…and I got an answer in a not too friendly raspy voice saying..”turn it off!”…I have been investigating the paranormal for over 4 years. This place is definitely haunted.I don’t care what anyone says. I’m going back this May…its worth the 12 hour drive…

I really like this place. Me and my family have been there three times and have made plans to return later this year. First we took the two hour tour, which simply wasn’t enough, then we took the four hour tour twice, once in the daylight, but it isn’t that fun at day time. This year we’re going eight hours. I can’t wait.

Hi, I am really interested in spending the night in room 502 for one night. Who could i contact to set up such an appointment? And how much would it cost for myself and my significant other. I am not afraid of anything, i have had spirits attack me before and i know that it is impossible for them to actually kill you. Hurt and bruse you… yes…kill no… as long as you are strong spirited. So i want to spend one night in 502. It will be awesome!

The Kentucky Area Paranormal Society has put together the Waverly Experience 2008, and we’ll be there with 8 or 10 other societies for a mass investigation on March 30th. We hope to be able to carry it on Para X Radio Network live while we’re there. Here’s a video we did to promote it:

I’ve been outside Waverly Hills and that was enough for me! I started to get pretty creeped out, and I think I may have seen some things that no one else who I was with saw. We were all looking at one particular window.

I have not ever been to Waverly Hills, but after watching the movie, “The Death Tunnel” I was immediately intrigued by the Waverly Hills Sanitorium. I did a lot of research on this place, and really, I wanted to go there. I mean, it sounds great, witnessing supernatural ghosts, or feeling the “aura” from this place, well, it just seems nothing short of spectacular to me. I was planning on going within the year, but then I seen that Waverly had been sold, and tour information was no longer available. If there is an up to date toursite for Waverly Hills, I would greatly appreciate it if you could give me it.

I am from cincinnati, and heading down there tonight with 4 friends for the overnight.. it has been a year on the waiting list. For those who said they can't get ahold of anyone, call during the day. I watched the death tunnel movie last night.. b movie, says:

Was there two years ago this June 3rd. Saw shadow people, something ran down my arm like someone else’s hand, only I was standing alone (about four foot away from everyone else), and have many pictures with strange orbs. Also have green and red lights that stream across the pictures. Waverly Hills is located in Louisville, KY right off Dixie Hwy. Ask anyone in Louisville and they can tell you where it is. It’s very well known.

By the way… this comment is for Michael. There are tours for Waverly Hills. I guess you can find the phone number by using http://www.yellowpages.com, or looking up Waverly’s phone number on their website.

We were broadcasting live on the Para X Radio Network in March at Waverly. I photographed a possible shadow person on the 5th floor. Here is the link to the forum discussing the pic and the picture itself:
