Real Haunted House

Waverly Hills Sanitorium for Tuberculosis

Louisville, Kentucky

(Also known as the Waverly Hills Sanitarium for Tuberculosis)

During the early twentieth century, Louisville had the highest tuberculosis rate in the country, so a hospital was opened. Many of the patients remained here until they died. The dead bodies were pushed down tunnels to the bottom of the hill where they were then carried off and buried. After the vaccine for tuberculosis was discovered, the hospital became a nursing home that is also now closed. Now, an elderly woman may be seen running from the building with bleeding wrists and ankles; she begs for someone to get her out of that place. Many have also seen people peeking out of third floor–the residential ward–windows.

We went there in August of 08. It takes reservations and it’s about a 6 month waiting list! It’s $50 for 4 hrs or $100 for 8 hrs. My wife and I got seperated and when I did see her she was running down the hallway! I finally caught her and she said there was a room with a bird cage and the room was closed off with what looked like chicken wire, anyway she went to take a picture of the bird cage, as the flash went off she seen a man standing right in front of her! That is why she was running! We caught a EVP of a little boy laughing and he say’s “Do it again” it’s plain as day! We are going to try to go back in 09, this time my wife said she aint going! If you have a Garmin or a TomTom you can drive right to the place! If you would like to hear the EVP just let me know and I will mail it to you

I have been to Waverly this past weekend for the over night “tour” where they basiclly say “go nuts”. I, being an amature ghost hunter with my own group in Louisville, was very dissapointed in the set up. There were 38 people are the single tour. First off that is WAY too many people, yes spirits feed off energy but that was nonsense. You see lights and flashes, hear things but lord knows if it is for real or some idiot elsewhere in the building. Also the only thing that I expereinced was the “shadow people” which I believe to just be your eyes adjusting to the dark and personally do not believe in. I do believe this place is haunted and would love to return but with less people and the same about of time. The place has a certain feeling to it, like nowhere I’ve ever been on a hunt, but there were just too many people in the building at one time and of course nothing is going to happen as far as the supernatural is concerned. The only exciting part was an idiot setting off an alarm on one of the 1st floor doors. This place is haunted and you’ll see that if you go at the right time with the right number of people so save up cash, pull some strings and I’m sure you’ll get in.

Mike if you do go back check out the room to the right, first one past the elevator on the 3rd floor, apparently there are stories of a guy seeing a tall man with no eyes(backed up by multipul security guards). and on the 4th floor some children had broken in and were locked in, they grabbed an ax and tried to ax their way out, guards heard the screaming and when they tried to open the door it opened easily and 3 kids came falling down(backed up by a guard that was there at the scene and this was before security was tight). Also email those pics and EVPs to me if you don’t mind nws_louisville@yahoo.com

My daughter clued me in to the Waverly and I have a fascination hungry for more information and personal experiences. She and her friend did the ‘turn-around’ thing and were chased by a guard, scared the **** out of them. They said the building was positively forboding at dusk. All around eerie. I am an educated Kentucky Hillbilly who has wandered from home and want to come home and check out some ghosts. Also, does anyone have a site that offers comprehensive information on the history of the Waverly as well as what is happening now? I could use new ‘jump-off’ points to do more investigating. Thanx.

Take it form someone who has been there, This is one place you don’t want to go if you are the type to get well you know. One of my friends want up to the thrid floor and we haven’t seen him for the last 10 years. no one has. We told him not to go up to the thrid floor but he did anyway.

Waverly is one of the most creepy places I have ever been. As of now, you can contact the owners, who live onsite, and schedule a tour for $20.00. An over night adventure is $100. The last time I tried to book a tour, they were booked through March 2009. You hear all kinds of stories about Waverly, but it’s totally different to expreiance it first hand. Forget the nurse of room 502, it’s the “shadow people” that really scare the stuffing out of you. Go see for yourself!!

My friends and I snuck up the body tunnel one night and got caught by the guards before we could actually go inside. Suprisingly, they were very friendly and offered to take us inside and give us a tour. We saw some body drawers in the morgue open and close. It was extremely scary but it’s the only time I’ve ever experienced anything like that.

I am a member of a paranormal group, and we’re planning a visit in 2010. I’m new to the group, but the other members have assured me that Waverly Hills is a great place to have a paranormal experience. So if you have never gone, do it. You won’t regret it. Also, all of the money you pay to go is used for restoring it. The owners have been working diligently to get it back to its former state. Visit http://www.therealwaverlyhills.com to get contact info and read more about the sanitorium.
