Waverly Hills Sanitorium for Tuberculosis
(Also known as the Waverly Hills Sanitarium for Tuberculosis)
During the early twentieth century, Louisville had the highest tuberculosis rate in the country, so a hospital was opened. Many of the patients remained here until they died. The dead bodies were pushed down tunnels to the bottom of the hill where they were then carried off and buried. After the vaccine for tuberculosis was discovered, the hospital became a nursing home that is also now closed. Now, an elderly woman may be seen running from the building with bleeding wrists and ankles; she begs for someone to get her out of that place. Many have also seen people peeking out of third floor–the residential ward–windows.

I am not denying how scary this place is, or hat there is something going on. I have been trying to go there for almost 3 years, I have conducted a lot of research about this place and I just want its true history to be shown… Not the rumors made up from false claims. You are right it may have been more than 7,000 but thats all we can know for sure because that is what is documented… I truly do believe that horrible things happened there and no doubt there are some trapped spirits… But for the dead the real numbers should be published not the stories. Also I would be very interested in seeing that photo maybe you should upload it to the actual website that the owners have its http://www.therealwaverlyhills.com/.

Derek, I just got back from Waverly Sunday morning and I seen nothing of that nature. And just wanted to let you know that room 502 is on the 5th floor. But I did catch quite a few orbs. About every 5 photos I snapped I caught at least 2 orbs. I believe that there is something there. The only time I felt ill was in the operating room and I was not the only one. I also heard many unexplained noises that could not be debunked no matter how hard I tried. Waverly has many spirits but I have never heard of someone getting something of that nature in a picture, I would love to see it.

DURING THE TB OUTBREAK THE WAVERLY WAS ONE OF THE BEST STATE OF THE ART HOSPITALS IN THE COUNTRY. OVER 6,000 PEOPLE DIED THERE BEFORE A VACCINE WAS DEVELOPED. IT IS BEING COMPLETELY RENOVATED BY THE NEW OWNERS TINA MATTINGLY AND HER HUSBAND. DURING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER THEY HAVE A HAUNTED HOUSE PARTY EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT FOR 20.00. IT’S A BEAUTIFUL BUILDING, AND THEY HAVE TOURS YEAR ROUND AND ALL THE MONEY GOES INTO THE RENOVATIONS. ON THEIR TOURS YOUR ALLOWED TO WANDER ALL THROUGH THE BUILDING AND THEY HAVE SECURITY GUARDS TO HELP INCASE YOU GET LOST OR TOTALLY FREAKED OUT. TB WAS AND IS AN AWFUL DESEASE. MY MOM HAD IT. AS FOR THE BODY SHOOT OR DEATH TUNNEL, IT WAS ORIGINALLY BUILT SO THE STAFF COULD GET TO THE HOSPITAL AND BE ABLE TO STAY OUT OF THE HEAT AND HARSH WINTERS, THEY DID END UP USING IT TO TAKE THE BODIES TO THE WAITING AMBULANCES AND TRAINS, IT WAS DONE LIKE IN SECRET SO THE OTHER PATIENTS WOULDN’T SEE HOW MANY WERE DYING EACH DAY, BY NOT SEEING THE BODIES THEIR SPIRIT’s WERE KEPT UP BECAUSE THE STAFF JUST SAID OH HE OR SHE GOT WELL AND WENT HOME.THE WAVERLY IS ONE OF THE FEW PLACES THAT IS AN HONEST TO GOD AUTHENTIC HAUNTED HOSPITAL.

By the way, it’s off of Dixie Highway in Louisville, KY. I don’t live too far from there. My husband and I are planning on visiting there sometime soon. As to getting the directions to Waverly, just visit the website at therealwaverlyhills.com. You can get the map, address, and directions on the website. Last I checked, it’s $20 to get in and take the tour. I hope all have fun, and enjoy your stay.

I have booked an 8 hour tour. If I see something-great. If I don’t-great. It doesn’t matter. If I find evidence of a spirit, that’s fantastic. If I don’t-then I’ll be left to wonder. BUT-for the person that says it’s a waste of money and the people that go there are dumb….I pay more than THAT for a good meal for 2! And, THAT’s over, in an hour! At Waverly I am getting 8 hours of something different to do….

ok im not say that sixty thousand people died there but it was way more than seven thousand…only that many were on record…i go there every year and this year was the wrost for me. it all started wen we arrived we were waiting for our tour giude when i got really sick to my stomach which was wired cause i was hyped bout going in..i broke out in extrem cold sweats and started puking but thats only half of it as we walk in i snap a few photos and almost immediattly we had gotten shadow figures.. so with seeing the photos i got a heavy feeling all around me..now acording to the guide if u feel this way then you are in the presents of the paranormal and if you start to smell things thatu shouldnt like what i was smelling which was cigar smok and im not a smoker so it was very distinct and queit odd.. soo at this point the guide has asked if anyone wanted to walk down to the end of the hall of the fourth floor where room 502 is (you should no the story) and also there is a lil girl that is also shown her presents…soo i jumped on the offer and he asked me to walk all the way down the 200 foot hallway so i get to the end of the hall and he says stop and turn and face the him and walk back as slow as possible in the middle on the hall with my arms spread apart.. soo im walking back and im about to pass 502 wen i get this urge to stop dead in my tracks its getting really cold at this point and i have a real uneasy feeling and as im just standing there the guide my brother and a few of my buddys that went all gasp lol im like please tell me there in nothing behind me and as i say that i feel like im being hugged from behind and a pressure at my waist so my bro snaps a photo as this is going on and to everyones surprize in the photo there was sure enough two arms wrapped around me at my hips and about the middle of my back was that lil girls head looking at the group we had so yea if you feel like being scared or if you dont believe then i suggested you go there and just seeing the place well make ur stomach drop
