Whaley House
During the early part of the 20th century, this house was home to the Whaley family, while it was also being used as a town hall and courthouse. Hangings were a frequent occurrence in the parlor, and strange happenings have been linked to this. All the Whaley children died unnatural deaths such as having an ax fall on their head, and being killed in the doorway of a closet. Today, in addition to the sightings of two apparitions, footsteps are heard and many weird odors permeate through the house.

I’m planning on going to this house on this Sunday night, I’m pretty amped up about it.. I heard that the Washburn girl story isn’t true, someone that used to work there made up that story just to add in another ghost. But I was told that there really is a little dog that haunts the place too.. A Fox Terrier… I really believe that this place is haunted.. Hopefully this weekend I’ll be able to find out for sure..

i was born and raised in san diego and had the pleasure of comming to to the whaley home in a field trip as a child. i remember a presence and everything. i wanted to at least give my children the same experience. my kids are from wa state, theyve not even had the experience of california. boy did they have it…. they experienced their first earthquak and haunted house. i took them to the whaley house. and wow was i in for a treat… the court house was our first visit, my 2 older kids went in no prob my youngest son, he almost flipped on me he refused to go into that room not even remotely close to the entrance. so we went on… of course we smelt the perfume on the stairs… but my oldest said it was only cold by where she was sitting in the theater room. she had a spirit sitting with her. they all saw everything i saw as a child sme things they saw i dint and vice versa. i loved that they can at least say they had that experience it was well worth the 15 bucks…

I went on the Whaley House night tour last Friday the 13th. The people who work there told me that more spooky things actually happen during the day. The house is located at 2482 San Diego Ave. The phone # is (619)297-9327. I can’t wait to go back.

This website needs a major FACT CHECK.
The truth about this house IS MUCH MORE INTERESTING THAN THIS JUNK AND MISINFORMATION THAT’S POSTED ON THIS WEB SITE!
The Whaley House was built in 1856-57 by Thomas Whaley. Before the house was built, three people were hanged there… William Marshall and Juan Verdugo for their part in the Indian Uprising that almost returned California to Mexico (their leader Antonio Garra was executed by firing squad in the El Campo Santo cemetery up the street, and Thomas Whaley was one of the firing squad members!)and Yankee Jim Robinson, for stealing a rowboat (he stole the rowboat so he could steal a larger boat). Thomas Whaley bought the land after the Robinson hanging, and built a large grainery (now the courthouse wing). He added the living quarters to the house later, and members of the Whaley family continued to live there for almost 100 years!
Over the years it served as a courthouse, a general store, a theater (when the Whaley family was living in San Francisco) and now it is a museum. Two of the Whaley children died in the home, but Thomas and his wife Anna moved to downtown San Diego before their deaths.
Lillian Whaley was the last of the Whaley children to live in the house, and she passed away in the 1950’s. By then the house was in bad shape, so the city scheduled it for demolition. Thankfully a group of dedicated people bought the house, formed the Historical Shrine Foundation. Under the leadership of June and Jim Reading, they convinced the county of San Diego to renovate it and operate it as a museum.
Is the Whaley House haunted? Come check it out and see for yourself.
BUT REALHAUNTS.COM NEEDS TO GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT!
