Real Haunted House

Whaley House

San Diego, California

During the early part of the 20th century, this house was home to the Whaley family, while it was also being used as a town hall and courthouse. Hangings were a frequent occurrence in the parlor, and strange happenings have been linked to this. All the Whaley children died unnatural deaths such as having an ax fall on their head, and being killed in the doorway of a closet. Today, in addition to the sightings of two apparitions, footsteps are heard and many weird odors permeate through the house.

I visited the house on July 23, 2009 during the afternoon. I consider myself psychic and have had psychic experiences. I did not feel any unusual negative energy during my visit. It’s just another old house. The problem with the house is that they have glass walls to keep visitors out of the rooms. It’s really bad feng shui to bottle energy up like that, no wonder this house is not getting good vibes. But, I have to say, I didn’t feel any strong spiritual presence, probably because it was during the day and maybe too many tourist. The admission is way too much as it only takes you about 15 minutes to go through it. Another money grab is my opinion.

This House IS hanted,
not only do I live behind a copple of houses down,
I have in fact worked there. Everytime I go I always take my camera with me.
If you go I sugest to take a camera with you and have the flash off.
I have so many pictures of apperetions I am now I full time belever.

From when I worked there 2002-2004 I have never heard about a someone getting an ax throught there head.
The father smoked tobacco, the second room (the piano room) there indead there was a hanging, in fact a suicide!
But sadly I haven’t gotten anything on film there.
If u ever go there and you want to see a ghost try the master bedroom and put your attention mostly to the window and bed, and the 2nd Childrens bedroom (closest to the theature, the room with the rocking chair and dolls) pay your focus to the doll on the rocking chair.
When your walking up the stairs if you can, stop and stand on the 8/9 step and just pause. (if you dare)

When the daughter was only 7 years old her friend came over to play, while playing tag the daughter went inside to help the mother, her friend runing in after her trips and falls on a clothing line, trying to take it off the line tightness deeper into her neck, the mother (who was Makeing pie at the time) runs grabs her and puts her in the daughters room. But the rope was to tight and she passed away at 6 years old 2 hours latter.

$9.00 for admition, and it’s a self tour, you can spend as much time in there as you want.
Plus right down the street is a graveyard.
Only part of the real thing is still there. Exsactly 3 Houses down left and right and across the street WERE built on graves, walking 5mins down from the house start looking down at the sidewalk. You should notice a little sign in each patch “respecting” the dead. And if you can park in frount of the cemetary I hope you don’t mind your car alarm going off.
Which you shouldn’t.
Your parked on graves anyways.

The house is in Old Town San Diego

If you are looking for some this is the perfect place to go,
that is if,
you can take it…

Honestly, I do believe the house is haunted. I was on a field trip in 4th grade and we kept hearing giggling in the rose garden. It was very obvious that nobody was there. A few month later, my mom, my brother, and I went on the tour of the house. I heard that only people that believe can see them. Them being the Whaleys’ and other ghosts. I honestly do believe in ghosts. I didn’t believe much before I went, but after I did very much. Nothing bad happened, but I saw a little boy sitting in one of the rooms, and going up the stairs I smelled the scent of cigars. The cigars didn’t freak me out but the child did. I felt a chill go down my back and the little boy smiled. Seriously, it was creepy.. I do believe in ghosts and enjoy watching ghost hunter shows. Also, I enjoy hearing thoughts and story’s so if you can and have the time, email me.

By the way, the Whaley House is in Old Town, San Diego. I don’t remember well, but I’m pretty sure it’s a red house. By a cemetary. (I know there’s a cemetary there, I’m just not sure if it’s by the Whaley House.)

I have been to this house probably a dozen times being a native San Diegan. I love it. Every time I have “sensed” something different…sometimes seeing something out of the corner of my eye, a brush against my arm, a draft on my legs walking down the stairs, something. One time, probably my 5th time there, I was all of a sudden overtaken by a strange emotion and ran out of the house crying hysterically…very unlike myself. I still to this day have no idea why.

I was at the whaley house in 2005 once, we were upstairs near one of the rooms that had the glass paneling. I was just standing around talking to my dad. All of the sudden a bird shot up the stairs, somehow got through the glass paneling (without shattering the glass.) Just dropped dead and something must have dragged it under the bed. A week later I came back and saw a dead bird hanging from a nail on a tree. It had the word whaley on its side. I was freaked out!

I visited on a late evening with my wife around July 2008 and we walked around inside and outside the house after having been on a “haunted tour” of San Diego. We had a HD video camera, DVR and Digital camera. We didn’t have any experiences. We tried looking for EVPs and evidence in the video/pictures but, other than some orbs that were most likely dust, we found nothing. We even tried at El Campo Santo Cemetery down the street to no avail. It is possible that there were too many people out and about, and if we DID have any evidence it was just too contaminated.

As a San Diegan, I can agree that the Whaley house is definitely a spooky place. You should hear some of the more detailed ghost stories; I’ll see if I can edit them on. For instance, the one I actually experienced- on the sixth step of the staircase, you can smell a woman’s perfume. On the seventh, you can feel a noose tightening around your neck.

Last year my family and I went to the Whaley house and took the tour of the house at first I just thought this nice old house was of historic value to California history. Walking through the house we entered the court room then found our way upstairs looking at all the old items in the house I thought our visit was just going to be another unenventful afternoon. That was until we were nearly over the tour and we walked downstairs and was looking into the living room, all of a sudden we all felt the same feeling but in different ways, I felt sick to my stomach I felt like I was going to be sick and vomit, my wife felt sick but mostly depressed like she was sad and it hit us all of a sudden. I had this overwelming urge to leave the house. After we left the house we just wanted to get away we fel drained and decided to go eat or just sit down. We were all shocked at how much it hit us. It seemed like what ever came over us left just as soon as we left the Whaley house.
I am not saying that there are ghosts or what ever just telling what we experianced.

Halloween 2008 my son and I heard a baby cry upstairs in the theater. outside in the rose garden at the edge of the brick and dirt. my son felt a soft whisk across his face and got chills. its said that one of the women that lived in the house liked children, and will touch them in this garden. its said it feels like walking into spider webs. We did not know this until AFTER the experience.
