Whaley Historical House
Whaley House was the residence of the Robert J. and Mary McFarlan Whaley from 1885 to 1925. During Mr. Whaley's presidency of Citizens Bank, he issued a $2,000 loan to the Flint Road Cart Company. This loan led to the creation of General Motors in Flint in 1908. Whaley House mission is to educate visitors about the legacy of the Whaley family, life in 19th century Flint, and historic preservation.

There are two Whaley houses in Flint. One is a beautiful home on Kearsley street in a nice section of town. This is probably the haunted house as it was at one time a residence. The other is a group home for children situated behind Hurley Hospital on the north side of 5th, this is the one referred to as being in a rough area. I have never heard of hauntings in the second location.

I am from the Flint, MI area, and my 92 year old grandmother lives two doors down in a mansion. Anyways, I used to volunteer there as a young child with my mother for tours and such, spent a significant amount of time there. But I always sensed an odd, negative presence there.

I used to wrok at Mott College, and it is not a bad neighborhood. The college area is very pleasant. I never heard any stories about Whaley House, but the house is very nice. It gives me something to do next time it is open. I will have to check it out.

The Whaley House is located at 624 E Kearsley Street, Flint, Michigan, just across the street from the University of Michigan-Flint campus.

I disagree with the post of 8.26.07. The area is very safe and is nestled between UM-Flint, The Flint College Cultural Area and The East Village neighborhood which is filled with very old, architecturally beautiful homes.

The Whaley House is Flint's only historical house museum and is open to the public for tours. The home has been fully restored and is AMAZING - truly a gem for those who like Victorian architecture. A definite MUST SEE!

Hey B.J.,
You don't want to go down there alone. The house is next to my college. It's in a bad area in Flint and is only open for special occasions. Google Mott Foundation or Applewood Estates, you should find a schedule of events.
