Real Haunted Houses

Real Haunted House

Wiccan Circle

Kalamazoo, Michigan

This house is said to be very haunted. A total of eight people have died in one way or another in the house and they are all thought to still reside there. It is said that one may experience faucets turning on and off, coasters flipping over, and footsteps throughout the house. There have also been reports of the appearance of a glowing cross. Others have alleged to be held to the bed and shoved down the stairs. Beneath the carpet in the basement, there is reportedly a Wiccan circle carved into the wood.

I live a stones throw from the “old miller road cemetery” It is interesting to say the least, as is the one in ike paine park in galesburg.
The old Upjohn Brook Lodge which is now owned by MSU is reported to be active.
The “doctors cottage” where Dr.Upjohn died, “brookside” and the carriage house are origional to the property.
Brook Lodge is a hotel and conference center now and is located in augusta.

Hey. I was in K-zoo last year visiting my brother, and he took me to a couple of really creepy places. Not houses or buildings, but some backroads. Unfortunately, I don’t know the geography there, so I can’t tell you where in the county we were, only that there were a number of areas where things felt extremely “wrong.” Does anyone know anything about hauntings in the woods? There was one road that was really awful, a dirt one through marshy woods, with tons of signs on the fence that sectioned off private property from the road saying “do not enter” and such. I’ve been trying to get some info on this area for a while now, because the feeling of being watched and actually hunted was so intense that it actually made my eyes tear up, and I’ve never experienced anything like that. If you know any legends or anything, can you send me what you’ve got at tayanny@yahoo.com?

Now, I’m not in the habit of wandering around dark roads and feeling creeped out. There were a few other things that happened while I was in MI that kept me from dismissing the drive as just an overactive imagination. For example, the night after that drive, my bro told me he’d take me past an old house that used to scare the **** out of him before they started remodeling it, but he didn’t tell me which one it was. He just drove me around a way I’d never been before, and when we were sitting at a light, I looked at the house on one of the corners and said, “There’s something weird about that one.” Sure enough, that was the house. I can’t pinpoint what it was, it didn’t actually look all that odd for K-zoo, a late 19th century style, I think, but there was something very off about it. Anyway, that’s one slightly more concrete example, and I’m looking forward to my next visit so I can investigat a bit more. I’ll check back here to get some ideas.

So here’s the thing that is unique about this case. Some people might say what does wiccan have to do with the haunting and wiccan doesn’t have a circle. True the “original” practice of wiccan soley consisted of the elements of life… fire, water, earth…ect… and prayer before them, to different gods deppending on ones desire. But over the years people have tranceformed it into a type of witchcraft where wiccan is performed within a pentogram, candles and relics on each point. So yes wiccan does have a circle for some who practice it, and for those that do practice and dissagree with this maybe u should look a little closer at what you are practicing and do some research. Wiccan can have everything to do with this haunting. Many people don’t realize that you can open demonic doors on accident. Shure your intentions might be good in your practices but you can’t control the negative that comes with it……hense what wiccan is all about. Good and the evil. There are many documented cases all over the world of demonic doors oppend do to the practice of wiccan, google it……..point blank this haunting sounds like a typical cause of wiccan!

pretty interesting…..see heres the kicker about this case. wiccan is a religion that is very old and not practiced like it used to be. True that “original” wiccan practices did not involve a circle, only the main elements of life, earth, fire, water, ect…where ivolved with hours of praying to whatever god one desires. but over time wiccan followers have transformed the religion by prayin inside a pentogram with the elements on all points of the gram and this is where modern day whichcraft came from..so yes wiccan does have a circle……..see what many wiccan practicers dont realize is that yes it can be used possitivly but also at the same time can open demonic doors hense what wiccan is about, the nature of good and evil. to have one you need the other. every year hundreds of cases are reported of wiccan prayers unlocking demonic devises….google it…and often the practicers themselves are attacked. to any of you practicers out there that disagree with what ive said do some research and know all the angles of what you practice cause some of the comments ive read point to people that practice but know nothing about it and thats how doors are unlocked. this case sounds like a good old fashioned demonic force that could or cudnt have been brought do to wiccan but with a pentogram on the floor in wiccan style its safe to say its wiccan or satanism, they r both the same thing really!

Carnije,
Dear one-you have made a complete fool of yourself by proclaiming to know so much about Wicca.
First of all-it is capitalized, as in Wicca. Wicca is an earth based belief system that incorporates magick in its practices. WICCAN is one who practices Wicca.
Secondly, the word is pentagram and it has been used in Wiccan practices forever.
Thirdly-Wiccans don’t believe in devils or demons. Those are Christian entities. Wiccans hold that in everything there is an opposite. You cannot have one with out the other. You cannot have good without evil. There is no light without dark. There are the informed and the uninformed.
I have been a Wiccan and Witch for over 30 years, honey. You need to go back and do more research, learn how to use spelling and punctuation and stick to topics that don’t make you look ridiculous in a public forum.
ANYWAY-If the energies in the house are negative, it is more likely it WAS the site of Satanic or Dark Witchcraft (“pentograms” are used extensively in both cases). My son will be attending WMU Spring semester and I would be very interested in visiting this house.

I’m from the area, and have heard of many of these stories. A group of friends and myself went to see the ‘crying mary’ unfortunatley the only supernatural we encountered that night were the ‘super’ police…it would be awesome to get a group together and research some of these places.

I live in Parchment and would love to know about haunted places in the city. I was born and raised in Parchment and still live here in my childhood home. My home is haunted by my father who passed away at home. We never had anything happened before he passed. Lights go on and off by themselves. The VCR stopped playing at one point, rewinded itself, popped out, was pushed back into the VCR, fast forwarded itself, and started playing where it left off. My boyfriend heard us talk of stories but never seen or hard anything until that day. Since then he has seen and heard a lot. But the VCR thing really freaked him out.

The carbon dioxide detector will go off and you can unplug it and take the batteries out and it will not shut up. Right after he passed my mom called consumers because it went off and she thought she had a gas leak in the house. Consumers could find no leak and no explaination for unplugging it and taking the battery out only to have it keep going off. They could not answer for that and it kind of freaked it out. I laughed and said dad knock it off and it shut off. I told the guy my dad passed away recently and it was him, he could not get out of the house fast enough. I got a good chuckle out of it. it does not scare me only reasures me that my father is still looking after me the way he did when he was alive. After my boyfriend moved in things calmed down a lot and things only happens around his birthday, my parents wedding anniversary, and around the time of his death which was six weeks after the anniversary date. I do not want anyone to investigate because if it is anyone else and not my dad I do not want to know, I am too chicken.

I also lived in Germany for six years. I saw many old castles and some were great and some I got a bad feeling in certain areas. My home in Germany was haunted my a little German man dressed in WWI era clothing. I called him Harry and he never bothered anyone, just moved things and a few guests saw him but I never did. He let us know he was there and when my Ex and I argued for some reason the TV would get turned up really loud and the shower would turn itself on.

Here is a link that gives the history of the TB hospital in Kzoo. http://www.hauntedhouses.com/states/mi/kalamazoo_sanitorium.cfm. It is definitely a creepy place at night (I was there in the mid 90′s) but it is highly patrolled by the Kzoo police department. As far as the 1-North pediatric section of Borgess Hospital, that is the psychiatric ward of that hospital. There are many areas in that hospital that are disturbing. There used to be a tunnel from the main hospital to the South Professional building (a 60′s ish building that was recently torn down to make room for more parking lot) that was extremely unnerving at different times of day. The Park building downtown used to be an old hotel and it is very creepy in some corners. Of course, the theater people in town all have stories about how their building is haunted (probably because the dead there have a flair for the dramatic and like to be seen, or the live people there do) however the Civic Auditorium on Bronson Park does seem to get a number of people talking. I have lived in Kzoo my entire life, but people don’t seem to discuss too many of these things.
