Witchcraft
When a suspected witch was convicted of a crime and sentenced to be hanged, she fiercely defended the fact that she was innocent. However, no one heeded her declaration, and the punishment was enforced. When at the gallows, the witch cursed the mayor and promised to haunt him to his grave. No paranormal activity was reported by the mayor, but on his grave is a boot print. If the print is removed, it will reappear in no more than a few days.

My mother is from Bucksport and I go to school in Castine which is very close to Bucksport. Yes it is true about the Buck story, I have always been told about another witch story with a boot mark on the grave in Old Town.

This info IS NOT TRUE. Every tourist brochure and information book written about Bucksport has this story about the Mayor of BUCKSPORT, not Old Town.

I am glad to see the story corrected several times over. I saw the boot my self several years ago. It looks like a big water stain in the shape of a high boot.

I live in Orono, ME which is like 5 seconds from Old Town and like an hour and 15 minutes away from Bucksport where the grave stone REALLY is. I have seen this mark with my own eyes several times, its always in the EXACT same place with the EXACT same shape. I am also an artist and I KNOW that no one is redrawing it over and over. it looks kind of like a water stain would, excpet i dont think granite or whatever stone it’s made of would stain like that.

The leg on Col Buck’s head stone is awesome. Yes there are many legends. One is that after the burning at the steak all remains was found except her leg. There is a headstone in Stonington on the grave of a chicken farmer. He was said to burn his farm for insurance money. On his stone is the outline of a chicken. Many who do not understand these mystic occurances pass it off as unbeleif or fairytail. When I was a small boy about 40 years ago I was told the story by a very elderly resident. What ever the true story……..it will be known in the end. It really does not matter what man thinks of it. Your mind will think as it will…..but the spirit knows differently. Blessed Be……

I heard that the woman’s name was Ida Black, but was she really Jonathan Buck’s mistress? Maybe if she was his mistress he just wanted to get rid of her to save himself from scandal.Maybe she wasn’t even a witch at all. Most of the people from the Salem witch trials weren’t witches.

i live in dixmont maine and that story did not take place in old town but in bucksport the story is about this lady who was accused of witchcraft and was burned and her foot rooled out of the fire that is why there is a foot on the grave stone of jonathon buck.

I was told diffrently as far as the story goes. John Buck was a Doctor, the witch had hurt her foot and it turned gang green. She refused to let him cut off her leg. But he had any way and cursed him for it saying my foot will haunt you for enternity. Thus the foot keeps reappearing.

There is the same footprint on a gravestone in Old Town, so if this story belongs in Bucksport, then what’s the story for Old Town? I’ve seen it so I’m curious. Was Old Town a copy cat story?

Ok really, maybe someone just walked over the coffin before they buried him. Maine should have the most ghost/monster stories. According to Stephen King, a lot of $h1t goes down in Maine: evil clowns, evil dogs, cursed burial grounds behind pet cemeteries, evil antique stores whose owner turns out to be Satan. Don’t move to Maine. Don’t even visit it. DON’T GO TO F***ING MAINE!

I have heard various versions of this story. It is also I believe, aside the Saco, this is the most famous of all the ghosts/curses/orbs in Maine.
