I live in Central-coastal Maine... I've been here my entire life. As a child my parents brought my brother and I to see the gravestone..In Bucksport. I'll NEVER forget the image. As for the exact story, I'm not sure. I just know there was a witches foot and leg on the stone. Very very strange. I remember an article being in a local paper not too long ago as well

I have lived in Maine all my life. My family was from the Washington County Area. We went to visit many times and remember my mother stopping by the cemetary numerous times to show us the foot & the heart. They have replaced the stone many times only for the heart &: foot to reappear on the stone.

It goes along with most of what was already said, this was Bucksport, Maine. How it goes is it was John Bucks Mistress, at which he accused her of being a witch when he no longer wanted her or she was trying to tell him she was pregnant. She cursed him saying i was always dance on your grave, which is where the foot/boot image comes in, but if you look at the top of the stone there is also a heart, sorta broken, to represent her broken heart. I never understood how everyone always forgets about the heart part too, they both can be seen at the same time, it doesn't transform as mentioned above, they always come back no matter what people have tried. The grave is on main street, but people are not allowed into the graveyard, she most you can do is look at it through the fence on the sidewalk.

The entire point of this legend is that THE IMAGE CHANGES THROUGHOUT THE YEARS!!! It changes from that of a foot to that of a heart! Everyone, everyone, in this are knows that and has seen that change in their lifetimes if they are more than a few years old. Over the course of a few years it changes completely from one image to another. This has been documented in many, many photos and is the entire mystery of the issue! No, I repeat NO REASON HAS EVER BEEN FOUND FOR THIS TRANSFORMATION OF THE IMAGE.

Ok really, maybe someone just walked over the coffin before they buried him. Maine should have the most ghost/monster stories. According to Stephen King, a lot of $h1t goes down in Maine: evil clowns, evil dogs, cursed burial grounds behind pet cemeteries, evil antique stores whose owner turns out to be Satan. Don't move to Maine. Don't even visit it. DON'T GO TO F***ING MAINE!
