Real Haunted Houses

Real Haunted House

Witches Den or Circle

New Orleans, Louisiana

At this old fountain, witchcraft was practiced very regularly. Many dogs and cats were murdered during sacrifices; their howls and meows are still heard today. Also heard are the screams of cries of the murdered and of the virgins that were brutally raped.

This story depicts nothing but an awful stereotype about witches. The term “witch” is a broad term. Rituals & traditions vary depending on what tradition a witch happens to follow. I happen to be a witch, a mom, and a wife and I can assure u that I’ve never sacraficed any animal or human…or plant for that matter. Most witches focus on POSITIVE energy and surrounding themselves with positve things and people. I also want to add that I do not have a wart on my nose, and am unable to fly with a broomstick.

I have several friends that are witches. Let me as you, how does one know that he or she is a christian? It’s a personal choice that they make.

For sometime now, there has been an ongoing debate ; one said states that witches are evil, wicked, devilish creatures that should simply be distroyed… the other states that witches are too often painted in a poor light and that the stereotypes of wicked witches and ghoulish green women only serves to further darken the “true” nature of witchcraft. Personally, I would choose to believe that there is good and evil in all of us, that these incidents could and most likely have happened, that there is an undenyable darkness associated in the concept of an inner attainable power…. so Rachel, as much as you would like to think all witches are good, and as much as i wish all people are good, the simple truth remains, these things do happen… and this story; however improbable, is possible

Gingert andBrigette is right. I am a witch…maybe not the best in the world…but i make things happen. I am also telekenetic, psychic and can read minds.
I know what you are thinking….”this girl is crazy…how old is she anyway?” to answer that question i am 13. You can email me at just put on the subject line ‘I read your comment on’ i will read it and get back to you. oh yeah i have been tested…..I am NOT CRAZY!!! oh yeah what is all this about i hear that witches have warts…….so not true!!!

Brigette and ginger e-mail me cuz i want to get to know others that actually consider themselves as witches or wiccans.

Avery says:

December 30, 2005, 9:08 pm

I think Rachel is the only witch here with any credibility. The rest of you sound like teenagers who call yourself Wiccan because you think it’s cool. Also, Brigette and Ginger, if you want any chance of being taken seriously, lay off the caps lock.

kira says:

January 5, 2006, 8:01 pm

MIranda guess what, I’ve been tested too… i’m AIDS free!! I know what your thinking I’m serious, take me serious!! anybody who had that ability wouldn’t use it especially if you can been tested, to read peoles minds over the DUMBnetwork website.

Sarah says:

Don’t be too hard on the kids “playing witch”. I first began learning to practice Wicca as a teenager, as do many other witches. I was one of the lucky ones though, and had a great older woman as a mentor and coven leader/high priestess and didn’t have to stumble around trying to teach myself.

For those who don’t know, Wicca is the practice of worshiping nature and the elementals (fire, water, earth and wind) and celebrating the connection between all things, living, inanimate and spiritual…well that’s the watered-down explanation. Some covens/witches practice magic (I do, in a limited way) and some do not…definitely not recommended for beginners with no mentor and it can be dangerous.

How do you know if you’re Wiccan? It’s a choice based on your beliefs. I was born into a Christian family but the teachings of the Bible never sat very well with me so I began to explore other religions and belief systems. I guess you could say I “converted” similar to the way a Protestant converts to Catholicism.

As for the Witches Den…might be true, never been there. All I can say is not all witches are good, any more than all members of any other group of people are good or evil. In the end though, that saying “What goes around comes around” is very true. In India they call it Karma. Christians say you reap what you sow. Many Wiccans even say that anything you do, good or bad, comes back on you three-fold…something to remember.

jenn says:

January 17, 2006, 7:35 am

Okay a little fact here. There are cultures out there, some still today, that sacrifice animals. And there were cultures in the past that even sacrificed people. So the possibility of it happening is there. Even the likelihood is there. But lets face it, the actual probability is a lot less likely.

As far as the witch thing, I kind of agree with Joshua. As possible as it is for someone to be â??good,â?? it is just as possible to be â??bad,â?? no matter what their beliefs are. You tell me that as a mother, right now Iâ??ve never physically hurt someone in my entire life, but if something / someone just horrible enough came along and harmed my daughter I wouldnâ??t in the slightest consider taking justice into my own hands. Even though Iâ??ve known all my life it is wrong, and my belief to harm another person is unforgiving. Donâ??t get me wrong. I believe everyone has a right to believe or disbelieve whatever they like. But Iâ??m asking kindly that we all agree to disagree when it comes to that part.

You all need to grow up. Or at least learn to read. Did the article say you did it? Duh! It’s talking about past events. Get over it. You all sound like 7th graders.

Fin Mu says:

June 15, 2006, 1:57 pm

The origin of the stereotype of a witch as evil, ugly, etc. is from ancient times when a woman might know some homemade cures for sicknesses & what not. She may have done midwifery as well. As medicine became more organised (and MALE) these negative images were developed to discredit the women, who were essentially homeopathic healers.

I must say, I am dissappointed with this site. There are no photographs, no specifics at all, really. For what I can tell the whole tale could be made up.

First of all Blessed be. And if you are a true wicca or witch you understand the comment. Second of all the story is a flase story. If you know anything about murders and the FBI, it’s stated quiet plainly that there has never been a scarificial killing of animal or human.

Tessy says:

August 23, 2006, 8:06 pm

Wow, you Wiccans are so incrediby ignorant, not to mention arrogant. Wiccan and witch are NOT synonymous. That is to say a wiccan may be a witch, but not all witches are Wiccans. When someone says witch they aren’t saying Wiccan. It’s akin to saying that anytime someone said “catholic” they’re talking about all christians.

You’re not special, and no one really cares if you label yourself a witch because you wanna be a hippy and dance around and hug trees. You’re not being persecuted, so just sit there and shut up and practice your religion quietly like most decent people do.

Mouse says:

October 30, 2006, 5:18 pm

I’ve known more Christians that were truly evil then Wiccans, Witchs or Pagans.

And this “story” has a much substance and truth as a rumored whisper or a truthful conviction at the Salem Witch Trials..

And no no on is being persecuted here.. but it is the type of story to reinforce the negativity without offering a shred of evidence or proof.

to sticker,
depends on what you call a which. in the old days i believe people burned wiches if they did anything unnatural.there are claivoyants, phicics, etc now and not eveyone is evil. there is good and bad majic. it depends on what the majic is used for and for what perpose and what kind of person is using it.for me, my ancesters are american grandfather was the chief and his brother was the whitch docter. my family can do thier own things like i do astrotravel. i contact and hav comunicated with spirits, help them cross over,i hav also hav the sensitivity of being possed by them by my own will,i hav read peoples minds before but not sure how. i believe in karma a higher being(God) and spiritual guides i hav seen a few phycics and theyv said the sam thing that i was buddist in my past life and i am an earth angel in this one because i posses the devine light. i dont know if its a load of **** but theres no denying that i do strange things.the only thing of a wicth type thing i have is tarot cards and a pendulim but thats just divination.

Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall
not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his
kingdom. (Matthew 16:28)………………

IVAN says:

rachel you are not a true witch i know. i can tell you have no clue about how the spiritual world works… in my opinion witches are not bad. but if the normal christian god loving poeple knew a real witche they would disagree with me. RELIGION IS WHAT KEEPS THE POOR MAN FROM MURDERING THE RICH!!!! EVERY RELIGON IN THE WORLD THAT HAS DESTROYED PEOPLE IS BASED ON LOVE. WE ARE ENSLAVED MORE AS HUMAN BEINGS NOW THAN AT ANY TIME, PROBABLY, IN MAN’S HISTORY. BUT IT IS SO SUGARCOATED, IT’S SO SLICK, IT’S SO POLISHED.

Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall
not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his
kingdom. (Matthew 16:28)………………

Most Christians do not realize that Jesus’ promise of his second coming did not apply to our generation or to a future generation, but only to the generation of his time. Also, Jesus said in Rev. 3:11: “Behold I come quickly…”

Those poor people of early Christianity! They thought the texts got written for them, yet Jesus never fulfilled his promise.

Two thousand years have rolled by and yet many “true” believers still await his “quick” return. As any school child knows, anyone who does not keep promises does not deserve our trust, much less our admiration.

Furthermore, to believe in a second coming and the end of the world gives no reason to feel concerned about the long-term future of Earth. Why should we care about the environment, wars, or suffering if we believe that the world will come to an end soon and that everything will get taken care of in heaven?

the fitrst thing you people here need to understand is that a WITCH and a WICCAN are two differnt things a witch casts spells and do magic and blah blah blah the wiccan however uses the elements (earth, wind, water and fire)to practice her magic. inoder words wiccans are not evil but witches are, another thing is wiccans are not as powerful as witches, witches set their presence around negativity and wiccans positivity.wiccan also dont have the power to trigger powerful spells.i also find the wiccans to be the younger folks.theres alot more that need sto be explained if u ppl want u can email me at if you need to learn about whitelighters or anyother thing. ill leave you with thisfmaous latin quote “desine sperare qui hic intraste”.

White lighters are characters devised in this late 20th century- dreamed up by the creators of the Charmed show.
I disagree that witches are evil-Male witches are known as Warlocks- Merlin the Magician was also a Warlock. Check it out in England’s Mythological History and Tales.

In New Orleans we stayed at an old residence, I think it was called the La Mounth House. Pre-Katrina. It was on Esplanade St. near the end of Bourbon St. We rented a suite on the ground floor in front. We used our EMF meter and went around the room. It went up and down, not big deal. Then I set the meter down on a table in the middle of the room as there was no notable activity. We both sat on the side of the bed and began planning our day. Suddenly the EMF meter when off of the scale. It was screaming. It pegged the meter for a good minute. Then it disappeared as quickly as it had appeared. I felt like someone was around us the whole time we were there.
We had been there since and stopped by the see Miss Kitty at the one of the bars off Bourbon (a Wyndham hotel or something) She is the bartender. While having a discussion about the area and it’s magical history I could have sworn that her eyes flashed red. This happened twice. Does anyone know what that means? or does Miss Kitty need medical attention?

So many closed minds- when you close your mind you miss a chance to learn, but from the sounds of it, some would rather bray like the asses they are than take the time to learn or investigate. SantaRia came from the carribbean, had roots in voodoo, but went astray, they do sacrifice animals on their high holidays and other rites and celebrations. Witchcraft and wiccan have become almost interchangable in current times, they do follow the elementals and do not sacrifice animals or children,at this point I woulod offer up some politicians for sacrifice just to shut them all up.Ivan, try spell check,it will help you to not sound as stupid as you are,no mo pc- it is ritalin, not ridalin,Kaitlyn and some others- go play in rush hour traffic.
The fountain was demolished in a storm at the turn of the century, the story has taken some twists and turns over the years and occassionaly is updated. The original spot was down from the the french quarter,by where the park is now.If you could get to the town, there are records on microfiche and some have been moved to digital format.

Sacrificing anything is ridiculous! When you worship the earth as witches do, you value life, whether on a large scale or small. Animals are precious and shortlived at best- why kill anything or anybody for “worship” to anything or anyone? The gods or God who created the earth and everything on it, did so for the enjoyment of its inhabitants. The creatures, humans included, deserve to live in harmony and peace.PEACE!

Okay, look i just keep reading the same thing over an over again about how whiches are good an this that an everything else, now before you move down an leave a comment all pissy read all of this first. They do have both good whiches an bad whiches. Not all whiches are good they may start out that way but once one realizes how powerful they are or the control they have over things they just want more an one heart break or someone that does something bad can snap a light on in someones head an them knowing they have power an control might take it in a term to make someone pay or something bad to happen. That is a which who has lost control an has lost the reason of her doing as she started out for the greater good. The real whiches will always have control an never use their power for a bad purpose they seek power an control but in a good way to help people an the whole picture where warts an all those images of bad whiches came from in history it was knowen that a which who practiced the evil ways if she messed up on a smell or so a part of her would be disformed i forgot where i read that but its goes along with all the other things that one should know. Anyway everyone just needs to chill out an stop fighting over something that can not be sought out all the way. We need to get back to the real topic which is. Is that place really haunted or did some kid make up hearing that cause they heard stories about it or People just want something to track tourist here or has any of yall went there to find out the truth so that they can share with the rest of us if its something worth seeing or not.

Hey Sweetiepie-
1- the question was answered more than once
2-spell check should become your friend;the word is spelled w-i-t-c-h, NOT which. To end your confusion,…which witch is which? Only 1 H.
and I won’t even bother with “more an one” because whatever you were attempting to babble about is lost on those of us with a brain. Go play in Harry Potterville.

Wild Wiccan- read all the way back, we have talked about where the place is, and that area will always have strange people there who are runaways, the weirdos are either practicing voodoo which is as old as christianity, or santa ria, the latter I will give you as weird. and pettypetty- your name says it all, the bible as we know it, is an interpretation by mortal man which means there is a good chance that they had no frikken clue.

First, God gave us free will; therefore, if a person chooses to be a witch, Wiccan, or Christian, it is their right of choice. Second, the current Old Testament is translated from the Jewâ??s Tanakh. The Tanakh contains the Torah, which is the same as the first five books of the Bible, The Prophets, and the Writings. These three sections make up what we call the Old Testament of Christianity. Third, the first church was comprised of Jews and Gentiles (non-Jews). Fourth, many things are misunderstood, because someone has studied the Bible and translated it, and has given their interpretation of what transpired. For example, the witch of En Dor, whom king Saul went to see, held a séance for the king. The goal of this séance was to bring the Prophet Samuel’s spirit back from Paradise. This she accomplished, but in doing so, she realized king Saul was making the request and feared for her life. The witch or medium of En Dor feared for her life; because Saul had run the mediums and spiritists out of Israel a 2 Samuel 28:3-25. Furthermore, as with all religions, the Christian walk is one of faith. I choose to believe that the Jesus is the Word made flesh and that he dwelt among man. I choose to believe that every word in the Bible is true. However, the interpretation of the Hebrew word Chasaph was translated to mean witch, but in Hebrew it means poisoner. There is often a lot lost in translations; that is why we are told, as Christians, to “Be diligent to present yourself approved of God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing (understanding) the word of truthâ? 2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV. In other words, buy a concordance and study the translated words of the Bible in order to understand its true meaning. Much is lost in translations.
As far as voodoo being as old as Christianity, you are wrong it is older. Christianity began with Christ; voodoo was already being practiced before this time.
On another note, Carina, for you personally, if you ever truly experience the presence of God, you will know without any doubt that God is real and what you thought you knew is nothing. I know that there are many false teachers of Christianity and they use religion as a disguise to receive money from people that are truly seeking God; however, this is present in all religions, not just Christianity. I do believe in the power of prayer. Again, prayer is an act of faith. Please understand that the original scriptures are written in Greek, Hebrew, and Chaldean, which is Father Abrahamâ??s original language. Nevertheless, I understand your point of view about the fact that the men that interpreted the Bible may have gotten it wrong. However, God made provision for that possibility in 2 Timothy 2:15. My question to you is this, why would there be provision in the Bible for the possibility of misinterpretation, if the being that was actually giving the words of biblical scriptures to man was not the Holy Spirit himself? Those of us in Christianity are taught, at some point in during the walk, that the Holy Spirit inspired the Bible. This means that the original biblical texts were not just pulled out of thin air, but the men that wrote the scriptures were guided by the Holy Spirit to do so. Could it be that God being omniscient knew that the true meaning of the words would be lost in translation? Once again, you need to realize that the original biblical texts were not written in English, but Greek, Hebrew, and Chaldean. Keep asking the questions and eventually you will find what you seek.

You can believe what you want, but I have seen what man will do- in the name of their God,There isn’t anything christian in it. I have also seen these same ‘wonderful'(said as sarcastic as possible) purveyors of the word will bend what is written to suit their own mindless desires. These are likely to be same that can’t accept change and fear anything different and will use the bible as a weapon to rid the universe of its presence instead of living as a christian would. Think about it- how many times has religion been used as a tool of hate?

Bellus says:

I’ve seen what “people” will do in the name of their “god”. Whether it be God the Father or god the almighty dollar. People will use any excuse to do what they want and get what they want. I don’t need to use God as an excuse or to blame Him for whatever I may do. I choose to do the things I do. I must say I agree with you, Carina. Religion has been and will continue to be used as a tool of/for hate. However, “true” religion is one of love and forgiveness. Sadly we don’t see enough of either of these anymore.

It all started wen I was young first came Halloween and I dressed up as a witch, then I woke up one nite and saw two withes with a coldren NOT A DREAM! and so I ran into my mums bed and they ran after me but wen I jumped in I looked back and they were gone and ever since I hav been sleeping in my mums bed because it’s like a barrier nothing can get me! And now EVERY HALLOWEEN I my sister and I see BLACK CATS! one time 1 was following us and we looked back and it was gone! and not too long ago my sister and my dads partners daughter wanted me to sleep out in the loungeroom with them so I did and all of a sudden I woke up a saw a witch glaring at me about 5 or 6 metres away from me then I heard a meow and I looked back and I saw a glimpse of a cat. I didn’t sleep that whole night and was sweating like mad but i didnt want to move. that morning I told the girls and my dad but none of them believed me, it’s so frustrating to not have anyone believe you. I lived in ponchatola,La all my life and their is this one street that freaks me out everytime i go on it.There is this tree that a slave lady was hung on.When it rains the tree smells like purfume,I have witness this myself. Then when my mother was younger she and her friend were going to a friends house and they saw this man on a horse with no HEAD.I dont know if it was a illusion or what but she was very serious when she said this.also these two couples were in the car late one night and the car suddenly tipped over on two wheels…..

All of you all are whacked in the head. This place is very real. It’s where the witches, God, and I go to make cat/dog soup. You only hear them barking and meowing until the water starts boiling and then that usually shuts them up. As far as the virgins being raped, somebody is mistaken. They probably heard “oh” “oh” and thought it was “no” “no”. But I assure you the sex is consentual.

Crystal says:

Fear of witches and the Wiccan religion is deeply rooted in cultural stereotypes. The fear comes from misunderstandings of what deities witches worship, and the nature of spells witches cast.

Witches do not worship the devil since they do not believe that a devil exists. Witches do occasionally cast spells, but most true Wiccans who follow the Creed of “do what ye will, yet harm ye none,” will not cast any spells that cause harm or interfere with another person’s free will.

Sacrifice is another thing that is often thought of as part of the religion. However witches and most other pagans do not practice it. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve been asked if I sacrifice small animals or babies.I don’t know of a single witch or pagan who practices any type of sacrifice.

Don’t be ignorant, research before you judge!

My husband & I visited New Orleans back in February. We happened to be there during Mardi Gras; it was AWESOME. We were there for 3 nights, stayed at the Hotel le Cirque. Lovely place, New Orleans, the hotel. We NEVER heard of this “fountain” and we asked about any & all haunted or scary places in N.O. Things get made up to spark interest and cause “drama” which is clearly what it has done here.
